Of traps currently in production I like Duke #1.75 Offsets. Very similar to the Victor #1.75 and #2 but those are no longer in production so the Duke gets the spot.

I like Duke 450 Half-Offsets too. Bryan Nelson started making a half offset for live market trapping and I tend to agree with him that many of the offset gaps on the market are too big for fox. That half offset give you all the benefits of an offset without the sliding and potential toe catch pullout on some animals.

They are a bit of a pain to make by taking traps apart and mixing and matching parts so I had Bill Duke make me a special run of the 450 half offsets for my website and to take to shows for trappers who want them.

We have more coyotes than fox around here. So, I use the MTP 550 or the Duke equivalent. In offset jaws. The wide jaw space works well on both species.

1 1/2 Victor double coil springs: I've caught a lot of Red and Gey fox, and even way more BIG, Strong, Minnesota coons with Victor, #1 1/2 Double Spring Coils with 3 feet of chain, 2 swivels, and a tree branch as a drag! It's been a while. The last time I purchased New, Greasy, in the Box Victors, I paid $32.50 a dozen for them at Cumberland's Northwest Trappers Supply, LTD in Owatonna. (This was before "Speed Black" type trap treatments. All of my traps were "boiled" in Logwood crystals at that time. LOL.) If I was going to do it all over again, I think I would have "bumped" up to a Victor #2, Double Coil just because of more power for Busting through partially Frozen ground, and the "higher jaw reach" of the #2 over the #1 1/2 Victors. I've used dozens of Northwood's 1 3/4's, and they've worked Fine! They seemed "much" larger than the Victor 1 1/2's? Maybe it was the "square" jaw design of the Northwoods #1 3/4's over the "round" jaw style of the Victor 1 1/2's that seemed to make them look so much larger? The Northwoods #1 3/4's were a nice trap though! They laid "Nice-n-Flat", without a lot of adjustments. With that "extra" 2 1/2 feet of chain I attached to the "stock" 6 inches of chain of the Victor #1 1/2 Double Coil, with a J-hook and swivel, I've NEVER had a Coon or a Fox pull-out! Deer and Sasquatch, (Big Foot) yes, but never a coon or fox.

The Northwoods 1 3/4's "square-jaw" were a Fine trap (still are). But I always added another 2 1/2 feet of chain and another swivel with a J-hook though.

You can't hardly "beat" a Victor 1 1/2 Double Coil. I have over 100 of them with 3 feet of chain attached with "2" swivels in the "set-up"! I've NEVER had a fox or a coon "pull-out"! The Northwoods 1 3/4's are Nice traps also. They lay so "Flat" right out of the box with minor trap pan adjustments.

Laminated Duke 1.5's with a midchain dbl swivel, 8" total chain length will catch and hold any fox alive and still be paw friendly.... IMO. I have 10-15 year old Duke 1.5's with no noticeable loss in spring strength... they're a stout, well made trap for the $$$.
450 OS's if money and theft isn't an issue.

The best red fox trap I ever used was the old Blake & Lamb 1 1/2 coil (strong springs, good jaws)

As I am no longer in an area with reds much I am not up to date on fox traps in the here and now. I do think however that the Bridger #2 Square Jaw is a very good trap, reminds me of the old NW 1.75 just a bit bigger. If I was targeting just read I would be very happy using #2 Bridger Square Jaws
