Everything is an example, his words teach us how to care, how to act, how to believe, how to worship...
His life is an example to us how to carry ourselves on the daily, Jesus prayed on his knees alot, Jesus turn the other cheek, Jesus spead the good of his father reason of his walk. As on earth he was pure.
His death was is an example of grace, and true forgiveness.. some.of his last words was forgive them for they know not what they do. He is dieing in pain and still praying for us.
Put your self in his shoes, this was why Jesus was here to be that example and daily we should strive to be in his shoes. Be pure, spread God's word, praise and worship him, pray for everyone, even your worse enemy, and be willing to sacrifice whatever it takes to walk that walk as he did.

Forgiveness of sin requires a perfect sacrifice. Someone/something must take the punishment for my sin, in order for my sin to be forgiven. In OT times, they sacrificed animals, and the animals had to be without blemish. But it wasn't good enough; they had to sacrifice over and over and over.
Sacrifice of a perfect man (Jesus), though, was and is enough to cover/forgive our sin now and forever. We don't have to keep sacrificing people ever and over for forgiveness of sin, not to mention that there are no perfect people to sacrifice. Jesus dying as punishment for my sin, instead of me dying as punishment for my sin, means I can live eternally (in heaven), and do so without having to constantly make more sacrifices.

So He did things not necessary to Him but as an example to us…?
  Interesting.
Thank you. I don't think so. That's too close to gnostic. Jesus was fully man and had to do everything we do, otherwise how could he know what it's like to be human? Yes, he got tired and dirty and sore and had to eat. If he hadn't eaten after the forty days in the wilderness, he would have eventually died.

Right now I’m having amnesia and déjà vu at the same time. I think I’ve forgotten this before.

More interesting.

Does the bible still claim he spent 40 days in the desert without food or water?

Does the bible still claim he spent 40 days in the desert without food or water? I don’t think there will be a revision coming on that one. He’s not the only one in the Bible to do a 40 day fast either
