More and more people don't have a lick of sense these days !

Used to never see it before, but in the last 10 years there are all kinds of people doing it. I'm sure some people have a higher body temp than others but to me a lot of them do it to look tough. I look at it the opposite way.

I wear shorts in the nice weather April to October weather permitting.

My kid and wife are both human furnaces.

Until it gets to around 15-20 degrees the wife will wear shorts and a tank top. She'll also have a fan in the window in the bedroom at night.

The kid prefers to wear them all the time. With his job where he's outdoors a lot he wears jeans and a sweat shirt.

Myself it gets below 60 degrees and I look like I'm going on an arctic expedition.

My legs have so many chigger scars from over the years that it looks like I have been shot with a dove load from the knees down lol.

5 degrees at the house this morning.

3 degrees the kids are are playing pickup basketball in their shorts and tank tops.

They are trying to send a message to others that they are tough and hot. Wait till they get frost bite. They will cry like babies.

Some people are warm natured, and don’t think they will be out there long.

When I used to run in the cold, I would wear running shorts if it was above 20 degrees. Wore long sleeves and a hat, but would almost always wear shorts.

We get folks that come to class in the winter wearing shorts and sandals. Go outside and they are cold, it’s their choice and they will learn.

11 degrees the other morning waiting at barbershop a little 9 year old girl? walking down sidewalk with shorts, shortsleeved and no socks . My parents would have tanned my rear for stupidity

That guy was just trying to show he is as tough now as Ladies were back in the 50s !! Looking at old pictures and what I can recall from memory of my early years, most women wore dresses..... It could be 20 below and when a women went to town she usually wore a dress... legs showing .... it had to be cold but that was just how women dressed back then. Alot of women anyway.

My folks would bundle us up like we were going on an Arctic expedition...

It is not just winter. I know a guy who wears shorts all the time. He lives in the city. I think city folks grow complacent. We have a winter storm coming in - south AR - where nobody is used to it. I literally live in a cabin in the woods - 3/4 mile to nearest neighbor, 400 ft driveway through trees, 25 miles to a walmart, grocery store, or hardware - the powerline that services my house ends one mile past me. We arent the first place they come to save. I have a pile of firewood in case power goes out, water in buckets in case of no water for flushing commodes, tractors and chainsaws in good running condition if trees fall across the road, generator on standby.

I might wear shorts when I am in the boat, fishing - when it is hot. Even then, if the boat broke down, and you had to spend the night, the skeeters might still kill you even with insect spray on your legs. I have friends come over and we ride my sxs down in the bottoms on a summer evening. They are in shorts and crocks. It would be a long miserable 2.5 mile walk at night through mud and briars infested with ticks, skeeters, cottonmouths, and alligators.

In my truck, I carry a battery drill, 1/4” driver, 1/2” driver, sockets up to 2.5”, sawzall, grinder with cutting wheel, and skill saw - floor jack, air tank, test light and connectors - and more. I have used all of that in the last month. Most not for me, but folks who are not prepared for emergencies. I think living out in the woods with tractors, utv’s, boats, etc - you come to expect something to go south.

I think city folks, in general - but not all - become complacent because help is so readily available. Most of them are not prepared for adversity - I expect it.

Anybody that's been to fur sales out west knows that it is George Kortum (Western Montana Fur) that has started the trend. Of course you need to wear cowboy boots with your shorts to have the full Kortum look!

The other thing i have noticed is that all the young kids never zip or button up their coats even if it's below zero. Must be a fashion statement.

I never wore shorts as a kid and not for most of my adult life. But I have enjoyed them when it's nice and warm in the summer for the last 10-15 years. I wear them for comfort. You will not convince me it's comfortable to wear them in cold weather. Makes you wonder how in their mind this is impressive to others.

Back in 2007 we had a auction for my uncles estate January .it was held outside with a temp of 5 degrees cloudy and a 15mph wind.there was a guy with sandals and a pair of shorts wearing a winter coat that stayed until the sale was over which was about 6 hrs.i remember hearing people talking saying how crazy he was.

I don't think wearing shorts or dressing lightly is a toughness thing for most people. It's mostly about comfort. I suspect most of the people dressing lightly in cold weather, like myself, are primarily of North West European genetics. Thousands of years of genetic selection makes us cold tolerant and intolerant of high temperatures.
