I would not rule out squirrels either
several of my gas cans and gas caps have squirrel damage and I had one eat the line on the back of my truck motor right up by the firewall.

darn little gas huffers

I saw what I though was fresh rabbit tracks , I set a Victor #1 thinking I would get the rabbit , I may have miss read the tracks I caught a squirrel a few days later blind trail set

around here the rabbits like to hide under cars and trailers , I would think about 110s mounted to boards under the car or trailer maybe chain off to a board set 4 out and pull onto the boards very slowly

just thinking , I get too many neighbors cats and dogs to use the conis in my yard ,so long springs and cage traps but I have gotten a lot more squirrel than rabbits , little wire snares would be the next thing I would explore.

Friend of mine had 50 box traps. Said in cold weather, no bait was needed to trap rabbits in the boxes.

I have a 6" white pvc pipe running under the driveway. Serves as a culvert. Judging from the tracks going in and out, rabbits are using it as shelter. No food in there.

my truck wasn't getting a lot of miles at the time. it probably sat 5 days in a row in the drive way without moving
wife drives the grocery hauler so a run to the hardware store was about all it was getting at the time.

I know a lot of guys here don't like cats, but having a few outside cats stops most of the rodent damage problems, when living out in the country.

When we first moved here, I got rid of all the cats living on the farm. After seeing how a single cat, that later showed up, kept the starlings, sparrows and robins out of the barns and stopped bags of feed from being chewed into by rodents, I let cats stay here now.

Nice. Hopefully they are smart enough to realize that trying to eat part of your truck can be their very demise!

Would much rather have weasels running around.

I agree...can't use snares or body grip.....can't figure they're origin...house has no trees....fence lines...shrubs.....has block foundation....really no place to hide......sits in middle of hay field....actually......boring looking place.....large hawk durring day.....probably just run out of somewhere else.....never seen on trail cams at night.....was thinking of permanet mounting smallest bodygrip to board from pins if it will still snap......so I don't need trip to ER setting.....with apple.....under a wire cage and a small opening....and put under car everynite.....so not to catch anything other than rabbit.....pretty sure Ohio.....any critters causing damage can be trapped

With the birds, weasels would be bad for us. We barely have any weasels around here. I saw a couple of road kill weasel last year and that was it.

A long time ago, when I first started trapping, I trapped one farm outside of Piqua, Ohio that had some rock piles with weasels in them. When there was light snow, there were tracks all around the piles including over my sets. I didn't know how to set pan tension back then and never caught any weasels.

I'm on same page as you with rodents in engine compartment.....having trapped the 2 rabbits......and last nite new bait wasn't touched.....they were culprit....now have to put on lift to double check brake lines at calipers.....going to mount somehow......smallest bodygrip to a board with wire cover to keep critters out .....except for rabbits....and keep round clock under vehicle when not in use....inside garage at doors and house at doors and in basement & basement steps...I've always have a victor mouse snap trap taped on small cardboard square.....with metal treadle .....super glue peanut for bait.....it lasts forever and catches any possible mice at time of move in......
Usually average 4 a year......I freak out to see mouse droppings and dried urine......just a bacteria and disease nut I guess....plus keeps wife quiet with always insisting house is infested with mice....go figure....had a racoon go in new vehicle engine compartment before payment book arrived.......ripped out entire hood insulation......was muddy spring season so it was a mess........think was a release from a subdivision home owner tree hugger ....too cheap to pay a critter control company....re trapping a raccoon is always a challenge but got him next nite he retutned....but thats another story on how I do it.......thanks for your input....
