Bruce do the Northern Lights look like that to the naked eye or only to a camera?

Twice last year, we were supposed to be visible here, but we couldn't see them. Lots of local people posted pictures on line though.

Once in a great while you can see the northern lights here in northern Maine

That's amazing. I too always wanted to see the northern lights, finally got my wish a couple months ago when we had that powerful solar storm. it wasn't bright like that picture but you could see a pale green and pink one with the naked eye, a picture with the cell phone amplifies it further. Never thought we'd see it this far south..

Northern lights are caused by solar activity. This is a high solar activity year I think. Probably could google and learn about it. Right now is shortest days of the year, long nights. Gaining light a few minutes per day.

On New Year’s Day there was a lot of Northern Lights above my house. It wasn’t as good as Bruce’s picture, but it was still fun to see.
