Getting tired of slushy and frozen urine bottles lately.
I have propylene glycol and glycerin in the shed. Which should I use? Or is there something else?

I have always heard good urine did not freeze. This is good weather to test it, that is for sure.

When I'm running a line in the winter, I always leave the urine in my cup holder so it sloshes around as I drive... Recently I purchased a pile of urine from a quality collector and it arrived when I was at work. It was on my porch in 20 degree and below weather for almost 24 hours and didn't freeze. Todd Strohecker also recently posted a video (I'm not sure which platform he posted it on, it's probably cross posted between FaceBook, YouTube, etc...) and said the same thing.

However- I had someone in the know suggest to me that 1 pint of glycol per gallon of urine will do the trick if you're having issues.

Real, pure urine will definitely get slushy. Myself when it gets slushy I just drain off what's still liquid and just use it. It's like concentrated urine so u don't need near as much. I've also added salt to urine.

I have 4 different urines from 2 suppliers in my lure bucket, been single digits this week, very sure who I would buy from again.

I have done the salt trick too, the deer love it twice as much then here, i love our deer, but they love urine, lol..

I always hear about the deer and salt but I haven't tested a lure or bait that coyotes like that deer don't like twice as much. I swear they are the most curious critter in the woods.

Our deer density is greater than our coyote density. I do not know but I have a hunch, we have a LOT more curious deer here, kinda like you have a LOT more hungry coyotes there. I have to look thru 50 deer tracks after a fresh snow to find a k9 track. As I said, I don't know because I don't take a daily walk there, but the odds of a deer trip here per ten sets are very high, I would bet a dozen traps it is much different there.

I am always very curious to read what people say on this topic. I collect fresh bladder urine from the lynx that I catch. So far I have just used the pure urine without adding anything. I too get tired of it freezing on me at times when I am out an entire day. I don’t have the luxury of putting it in the warm cab of a truck between sets. I don’t understand how some people say good urine doesn’t freeze. Is bladder collected not good urine or does “good urine” already have antifreeze added and the people buying just don’t realize that?

Everything freezes if it gets cold enough…even antifreeze!

Of course good urine will freeze if it gets extremely cold.

From my experience in temps we normally see in Pennsylvania it will get slushy in the cold.

If I put a gallon of collection urine in a deep freezer there are some fractions of it that still don’t freeze solid.

Good urine is very resistant to freezing.

Considering urine is 90% plus comprised of water it is very subject to freezing temperatures.

The other active solid components of the urine are what make it somewhat resistant to freezing. Salts (sodium), urea, potassium and chlorides are some elements of urine that come to mind.

The volume of the contained urine determines the speed of its freezing capacity. A pint will be subject to freezing much more quickly than a gallon etc.

I carry my urine in very cold temps in 4 oz. plastic cylinder squirt bottles placed in some zip lock baggies that I place in my pants or jacket pocket. Your body heat will keep them from freezing. They fit nicely without much extra bulk to carry. Great for walk in locations also.

This is all done before the season so I have several types of urine ready for use. It will not freeze and won't spill if you secure the baggie after each use. I also keep a blue paper shop towel in each urine bag to help keep things dry and to wipe up excess drippage. Works for me.

Good info on here...cold temps around the country and I'd sure EVERYONE that's trapping now is experiencing this urine issue.

Except us southerners! Was 23 when I checked my line this morning, but my urine was still liquid. That’s about as cold as we get so my experience is pretty invalid for most everyone else.

I’m not sure how much it would help in other areas, but I freeze my urine and concentrate it by pouring off the stuff that thaws first. It has to sit a day or two in the freezer before it gets frozen solid, but then I just let it thaw and pour off about half. You can still use the frozen stuff, it’s just not quite as potent

When trapping off a snowmachine in cold weather I carry my urine in a shirt pocket. Or on the new Skandics, they have a "glove box" compartment under the windshield, this is a good place to carry urine also where it won't freeze, the heat from the motor keeps it warm enough in this country to keep it liquid, not sure if it would do so at -40, but down into the low negatives that we get here it works well. Just remember to take it out at the end of the day and bring it inside, because it will take quite a long time to unthaw there if you leave it there until the next check in cold temperatures.
