I'm currently blocking out a badger to make a hat, where do I cut the neck to be able to sew on the face? This is what I'm looking at...

Depends on the pattern of the hat you are making.
The better patterns in my opinion have the face folded down as part of the top piece and basted to the front of the hat.
Thats a good looking badger.

I've also been trying to find out what kind of stitch to use to sew up a tail/leg. I'm thinking something like a shoelace type thing?

When doing that type of finish work make several stitches and leave them a bit loose. Then use a fine brush to make sure no hair is bunched under one stitch, then pull them tight after brushing.use a fine slicker brush. This will make a clean job and the seam wont show.keep the stiches close to the edge and uniform.

Duly noted, thank you. I'm really dragging my feet on this, once I start I think it will go okay, just a little intimidating because I'm very critical of myself and don't want it to turn out like crap. I'll keep the thread updated with pics as I get moving on it, and I'm sure I'll have another question or two.

hard to bugger up too bad.
Like carpentry measure twice and cut once.
The easiest mistake to make if making a tailored hat is laying down your pattern wrong and cutting two left side pieces instead of a left and a right,or vice versa.
