We had two doubles this morning.

The first was at a spot that has produced over twenty fox in past seasons, but had only produced one so far this season.

[Linked Image]

The next was in the disked over pumpkin patch that I had not much confidence in since it had been disked. It turned out to be pretty good producer so far.

[Linked Image]

The remake looks like a bomb went off. It should have lots of eye appeal now. LOL

[Linked Image]

On another thread I had mentioned that we had only ever caught four fox in one check. I was wrong about that. We have actually caught five in one check already. We were excited about the prospect of tying or possibly beating that record since we had two more farms to check.

It didn’t happen, although we came close. At two sets we had fox tracks within six inches of the pan.

[Linked Image]

So we ended the morning with four.

[Linked Image]

Chocolate chip pancakes and scrapple for this morning’s breakfast.

I can see two blind sets right where they walked around that set. one on each end of their approach to get behind the set. did that here a lot on coyotes and it was money.

Swamp, curiosity/learning question - what about the middle of the road do you like? I assumed tire tracks would be good blind set for easy travel, but middle for….pee post?

Boy, you have nice fox out there. I remember in the 80's selling western reds for $55 a piece. What we're you getting out there on those beautiful cherry reds? You might not be old enough to remember but somebody knows.

I would set the tracks if I could but that would result in smashed traps. That is a tractor lane and is used on a fairly regular basis although less frequently this time of year. As it is I crowd the tracks and do still get some smashed traps from them being run over.

Also, I like to drive the length of the lane when there is fresh snow on the ground to make a nice, inviting path for reds to walk down. I'd be driving over my own traps if they were set on the tracks. The banks on either side, especially one side are too high to put a dirt hole or trap bed on so that leaves me the center hump for the holes and the edge of the hump for the trap beds.

All sets are dirt-holes here.

Eh...wot?

Me too, I didn't eat any. I opted for an omelet with my scrapple instead. She gets her pick of breakfasts on the weekends. Her mother insists I feed her healthier breakfasts on school days.

She is fifteen now.

I really don't know what they will bring.

I have been selling to a furrier in Colorado for a good number of years now. Our arrangement was that I shipped to Tubari, they tanned them and shipped to him. The buyer paid shipping and was giving me a good price for my furs, usually 20-30% over average market value for my section fox.

Tubari is out of business now. I don't know whether or not that influenced my buyers decision but he has indicated he is not interested in my furs this season.

I think I will be shipping to FHA so wetdog may be correct in his prediction.

Eh...wot?

I remember averaging $55.00-$65.00 and up during the 70's-80's fur boom years. I remember $35.00-$40.00 coon during those years. I also remember intense competition and lots of Johnny Sneakums, something we don't deal with now.

There's three sets on the other side of the tractor path, two close dirt-holes and a third on the other side of the culvert/bridge. That has historically been the hot side, I've caught triples there more than once. This side shown only gets one because it has historically been the slow side.

Everything is backwards this season though. That side has produced five reds in twelve days and the other side only two.

You are correct though, blind sets would've caught him. I'm betting I'll catch him in a few days without them though.

Eh...wot?
