...add up.
Latest reports 150 billion dollars in damages, 12,000 structured damaged or destroyed.
Do the math; that adds up to $12,500,000 per structure.
Of course that includes some businesses and a few schools.
Regardless I have a hunch the State is fishing for a huge Federal payout.

Stop and add it up.
Most of those houses were over 5- thousand to over a million each.
Don't forget public buildings , at well over 5-6 million each.
Lets add in cars and other vehicles , streets that are no longer stable , clean up and the cost of rebuilding.
And you know the politicians will get their 10% cut!
Plus it' happened just before Trump takes office.
A big hole to dig out of!

Agree, however, I'll bet the politicians cut will be closer to 50%+.
Remember though, a huge percentagevof the homes were little bungalows, and hundreds of older mobilehomes sitting on high priced dirt.

The news said that the average recent sales price in the one neighborhood was a little over 27 million per house.

Trump needs to treat them like Biden treated North Carolina.

The high priced mansions are the exception rather than the rule, but they make great newsreel footage.

I understand that some were mansions and large houses but weren't most valued high because of their location?

I saw that there was a Dec 24 announcement by the LA Water Dept that because of budget restraints that the fire hydrants weren't going to be tested. The day before Christmas. State Farm pulls the plug on lots of those single family houses in mid-2024. Videos of people appearing to start fires. January usually isn't wildfire season, although I think the rainiest month there is March.

Yeah, its all by chance...

From what I’ve seen how are they wildfires? Most news stories looks like subdivisions to me Yes might have started in woods but the neighborhood and strip malls/ schools aren’t wildfires

Makes you wonder just what was so flammable in between those houses?

Embers on the roofs, evacuate everyone and nobody to put out spot fires.

Yes, the chaparral shrublands are a fire ecosystem, the stuff is meant to burn over time. If there are (imported) eucalyptus shade trees in yards, well that's just an added flammable bonus.

What blows me away is how the vehicles on the streets can catch fire and burn to a hulk. I suspect that hot embers either start the tires on fire or a bit of oily bottom of the engine/tranny area catches. Usually, nothing put the steel survives the overall fire.

My wife saw a news clip with a fire chief. He was making the point that the count of destroyed structures includes vehicles, sheds, garages, gazebos, ect, in addition to houses, schools, businesses. This doesn't do anything to answer Waggler's question, it just points out that we can't understand what is being said without knowing how they define things. I would never have thought of a burned out vehicle as a "structure."

This is the start of Newsom’s campaign. Gotta make sure he’s known by everyone when he runs for prez in 4 years.
