Hooked up a 16 foot trailer band went to cut wood. The old gal could not handle getting around with the empty trailer in the snow. It never been an issue before but was Today. so I went ahead and took down a 2 man ladder stand and dropped the big dead ash it was on and mostly got it cut and split with the boys. it will have to stay there tell it melts off or I go pick up an old 4x4 I'm eye balling or I go get a new 4x4 tractor I have also been thinking about.

this is the only time that tractor could not do all I ask of it. Typically it Handel's that trailer with its 13" side boards loaded with wood tell its falling off the side. I didn't think snow would make such a big difference. I was wrong.

I find there are dramatically different "types" of snow, temp and underlying condition combinations the can really surprise ya.
One day it's a tank, next its a 2WD with slicks. smile

If all you were missing was traction.......there is an easy fix for that..........tire chains.

Easy to vote your way into socialism, but impossible to vote your way out of it.

No I dug some holes. just could not steer. ended up with the ea frame of the trailer on the back tire and had to un hook it twice due to sliding front end and hills. needed front wheel assist.

Mine is a tank with the loader on the front and disc on the back. Don’t steer very good but ain’t much stopping it in L1. lol

Fluid fill the front tires, chain it front and back and you are good to go. You can also mount some weight to the front to help with the steering. Eric

Just a heads up, a 4x4 tractor isn’t going to solve your issue. My larger 4wd tractor stays parked for the winter, my smaller 2wd with rear chains will do 10x the work as the 4x4. Steering in snow requires using the brakes.

one is solid filled on the front so extra heavy and it has wheel weights front and back and fluid filled tires on the back. she is a heavy girl.

Break a trail to where you need to go in reverse. If it is below freezing tonight your tracks will be like concrete by morning.

I have nothing clever to put here.

I drove the tractor all around looking for what I was going to cut and how to pull up to it before hooking the trailer up and it did fine. really surprised me it had any issues with an empty trailer especially since it's typically a tank and will either pull it or dig untill is in the frame if you let it. .

That is odd, especially with an empty trailer. I could see if the trailer was loaded and taking some weight off the front. Just curious why just fill one front tire. I have always had both fluid filled. Eric

One keep going flat and I got tired of having the shop replace 27$ tubs and never finding the cause inside the tire . figured I would do the other one if it starts going flat.

Brakes and skinny front tires are your friend in slick snow.

If there's a bottom to the muck you need chains and weight, if it's bottomless slop then flotation is the only hope.

Those green ones are not ripe yet. Honestly I would buy an old one but not one of the new ones. When a caliper for my gator is $400 and made in China bought at the dealer no thanks on the green ones.

New will be orange.

I’m with you on the new stuff, a 4020 or 4000 is probably what you’d use.
