Prices are plumb crazy on new stuff and a lot of used stuff is well over 25 k with 150k miles or more. sad even old low mileage trucks 20 years old are asking what they cost new many times.

I found a few old ones I may go look at but a 2 hour drive to go look is tough for a 20 year old truck. But found an 04 lariat 4x4 extended cab with 86k miles for right at 10 k that looks nice and clean at least in the pictures. May be worth the drive though.

I was looking for a low milage extended cab tundra but they are proud of them..

How did vehicle prices become so crazy and more importantly how are the average people still buying them. I know how small I live and my limit amount of bills along with what I make. I sure can't figure out how so many people are in expensive homes with 2 new vehicle in the drive. We must have one heck of a maxed out credit bubble.

Well they lease or extend payments to 7 years...and have two good salaries..might be the worst investment of all time, lol
And yes, the prices are obscene, new or otherwise

Cash for clunkers gutted the used truck market, and the recent stupidity has only made it worse.

I've been looking for months. Apparently, it's a unicorn to want a newer V8 full size pick up with lower miles. You basically have to be there when they are traded in, or give your life savings and both bird dogs to get one.

I'm not sure who thought making 1500's with a 4cyl engine was a good idea, turbo or not, but it's absurd.

A lot of it comes from trucks being popular with people who don't use it as a truck, as a buddy of mine says that truck is so fancy I bet they don't even haul groceries in that. In addition, all the electronic this and that isn't holding up, I predict that in 2040 there will be very few 2024 trucks still functional, it is planned obsolescence, so people have to buy a newer vehicle on a regular basis. I mean think about it there wasn't a whole lot that could go wrong when windows had cranks, transfer cases had linkages and heat and air was controlled by dials and levers rather than a touch screen. Now I admit todays engines are lasting longer than ever before but that does little good if nothing else on the truck is functioning.

Ide probably steer clear of that 04 lariat, the 5.4 wasn't a great motor and if its a superduty the 04 still had the old style suspension and the 6.0 diesel has its own set of issues.

I'm currently also looking for a truck. I'm looking for ford superduties 2011+ with the 6.2 gas motor and a Tundra for my personal vehicle, the 5.7 Tundra was a super solid truck, in 17 they went to touch screens n such so ide prefer a 16 or older.

Edit after getting interrupted by a toddler. Don't be afraid to consider a newer superduty, the cities and counties use mainly superduties here and can be bought for a reasonable price, they're the same size as a half ton (or close) but many of them are much more Spartan. Parts are plentiful and around the same price as half ton parts. If I was going to get a Ford half ton I would look for one with the 5.0 V8, my dad has one, nice truck.

Made by unions to be affordable by union workers. Prices have been obscene for a very long time PF.
Everyone asks why I drive an SUV. Well there are a lot more affordable SUVs around in my price range than pickups.

I’m going to say I’ve had several 5.4 ford f150s and never had a problem with the motors, I did general maintenance at the recommended intervals and it was smooth sailing. All those trucks had well over 100,000 miles on them. My last one was just shy of 300,000 when I sold it and the guy still uses it daily. Eric

That'd be neat if true. Honda and Nissan are merging, a 4x4, extended cab, manual truck for 25k ish and ide be all over it.

Hang in there and keep looking. I've been looking for a couple of months, and finally found what I was looking for. It was a bit pricey, but worth it for what I got.

2016 Tundra TRD/ Off Road Package/ Towing package/ 4X4/ cap with side opening windows/ 120,000 miles/ 38 gallon fuel tank/ roof rack/ practically brand new Michelin tires/ clean as a whistle inside and out. Looked like it had been garaged. $25,990.

Just keep looking...

The Ford 5.4s from 05-09 or 10ish had the cam phaser problem. An engineering fault but never recalled……been there done that. My 2017 F350 with the 6.2 gasser is one heck of a truck. Ridden hard, but it’s never let me down, just gets the regular A services. It’s just over 300000km and I’m slated for a new one this spring or summer but don’t really want to give her up. It drives and feels like a truck, not like the GM 3500s, those are trucks you drive to church on Sundays. It’ll be a good one for who ever buys it at the auction. When we talk trucks like this, we don’t talk about gas consumption…..about 9.5mpg, it’s about the same as the Shelby GT500H I got booked for Vegas in a few weeks…lol

I have too many trucks. The issue is I'm not willing to part with any of them, as they all have a purpose. Also, a few of them are on different islands which makes them necessary

OK so I found an 04 with 5.4 4x4 with 84, 000 miles the small extended cab and to many buttons and leather. It looks very clean from the pictures. Missing gas fill door. Does it have that issue or was that only 05 and later.
Asking just under 10 k but it 3 hrs away to go look at. but that low miles and price has me thinking about making the drive tomorrow. My little old 97 ranger needs some tlc and that's taking the dash out to replace vacuum lines so I can get the heat and air to work. It's not fun in bad weather with no defrost blowing .

Edit to add I was using dads Tacoma to cut wood today. I forgot how nice driving a 4x4 is.

When did Ford 'fix" their self ejecting spark plugs? Or the plugs that disassembled themsleves, resulting in head removal to extract them? Seem to remember those being the 2 valve V8's in the early 2000s.

One of my aunts had that issue in a 2006 explorer
