Made a trench set for the coyotes running around here. Yesterday, camera captured a video of what I really want to catch.

Should I put another trap a foot away from the trench or make another set close by more "cat-friendly"?

I would be following those tracks and putting out steel in good choke points , if I had a cat tag.

Problem is it snowed another 3" after the video and it really drifted. I can follow them a bit, but it kinda vanished.

Make a walkthru against the base of that tree on the right side. Use a bunch of limbs to create the gap against the trunk. Use some polyfill (and some feathers if your state allows them) to create visual intrigue. A rub lure (like Jameson's Sierra mist) up 12-15" on the tree and one or two others (like cat gland, castor, mink or muskrat musk, fish oil - whatever) on the limb side. I would anchor my trap to the tree with an extension cable wrapped around the trunk. Block the sides of the trap in well so the pan is the only comfortable place to step. And even stepping sticks on either side to set up his stride. You'll have him next time he comes by. (Or maybe more probably a big boar coon out looking for love LOL).

You can catch a lot of cats in subtle canine sets. And they have a good sense of smell. But if you want them next time thru without misses, draw them in with visuals. Get them to commit by appealing to their curiosity with the olfactories. And tell them exactly which 2" piece of real estate to put their right front paw:)

United we stand.
