The other night I had a nose bleed that took me over 5 hours to stop. I take a blood thinner so I suppose that had something to do with it. I had to lay on my back with my head titled back and I stuffed the nostril with tissue. That was miserable, I am looking for a better way to stop it if it happens again. Any of you folks have experience with a nose bleed?
I've had an occasional nose bleed for about 5 years, I doctored for it and I guess I should not have quit doing what she prescribed. She had me get an over the counter sinus rinse called NeilMed and rinse both nostrils twice a day. I did that for a long time and when I didn't have anymore nosebleeds I quit it. So I guess it is on me. I started the rinse process again. I am just curious if some of you know a good way to stop one if it would happen again. The previous nose bleeds I had I got stopped rather easily, I don't know why it was such a problem this last time.
I got myself a seniors' GPS. Not only does it tell me how to get to my destination, it tells me why I wanted to go there.

Yeah you got to be careful with the nose bleed thing. Have life time friend used to wake up in morning pillow look like someone was killed with it. Sometimes he would just sneeze and it would be a blood bath. He ended up having to have couple spots cauterized. That was probably 50 years and I think he still gets a bleed going sometimes. When I was in highschool wrestling. We had couple guys bleed Everytime they wrestle. Had little things like tampons called rino rocket. End up with that in their nose. You might want to get your self some. Beat bloody wad of toilet paper or Kleenex.

Got a humidifier, will start using it tonight. I also have been using Vaseline after I do a rinse. I am looking for ways to stop the bleed once it starts. I think with me using the rinse and the humidifier I won't have any more nose bleeds. It was just frustrating that it took over 5 hours to stop it the other night.

When dad had his by-pass surgery the doc put him on blood thinners. He had some bad nosebleeds and ended up in intensive care for a few days due to his age and loss of blood. They had a rhino rocket up his nose and I was in the room when they removed it after a few days. The blood just poured out again. They jammed another rocket up his nose to get it stopped. They ended up adjusting his medicine and cauterizing the bleeders. All was good for about 5 years and then he started getting the nose bleeds again. He ended up in the ER twice within 2 weeks. Each time they cauterized a bleeder. He has been good so far. It has been about a year since his last nose bleed.
I would suggest going to the doctor. Hopefully they don't get any worse.

I have them all the time. Get with your doc and get it cauterized. But it only happens for me in the winter months. I use the Vaseline treatment and have a room humidifier and none of those things work. I can go for weeks and then for no reason get a gusher. It takes me about a hour to get it stopped. And It's only at night when I hit the sack.
You are better off sitting up rather than lying down. I just stuff some Kleenex up my nose to get it stopped.

Never put Vaseline in your nostrils!!! You could get Vaseline in your lungs and suffer damage or even die.
Keith When I first started to get nose bleeds I went to a specialist, she told me to use the rinse I mentioned above and after using the rinse to put a bit of Vaseline on the inside at the bottom of my nose, she did not tell me to put it up in the nostrils, but along the bottom and then wipe it with a tissue. I really think if I had continued using the rinse I would not have gotten a bloody nose again. I plan to keep on using the rinse now.
