Not a coyote but has exposed claws. I’m guessing maybe a skunk? We have a few in this area I’ve just never seen one on the trap line here?
The one picture is on the other side of the two track of a definite coyote for reference.

What size was the track in question?
Quarter size?
Smaller?

I would not think even a XL skunk would have a track any bigger than a quarter but I couldn't pick a skunk track out any way

It’s a really big track. Bigger than a large coyote track. About 2 1/4 wide and long. Strange track. I’ve been on this property 3 yrs and trap it 4 months out of the year and have never seen a track like it. I set on it lol! Checking this evening mystery might get answered.

Some form of mustelid. But without some size reference its hard to tell. Toes look a bit to splayed out for skunk to me.

No dogs on the property it’s high fence and the steps are small like 6 inch steps the back feet and the front are pretty much the same. They don’t have a foot like a coon almost like a badger, but we don’t have those and a badger track the claws would be longer, so I’m not sure

Lots of those tracks around. They are very different and most times have a tail drag mark in the sand.

Definitely not a skunk or armadillo with a track 2.5" in any dimension laugh

Maybe you will catch it and then we will know

Just to follow up on sharkhunter's thought. Badgers can walk around with their claws lifted up and not have them in the track. Track can resemble a cats if they do this.

That was my thoughts, in fact I typed that out last night and then my internet froze and it didn't post. Not sure what types of weasel family mustileds he has in his area. Badger usually have their claws farther away from their feet, but if their claws aren't showing they look "catty".

I'm not disputing your claim, but badger claw imprints are a good 1"-1 1/4" in front of the toe pads usually. Which can make them hard to find at times.

Is an otter a mustelid?

That could be a possibility where he is

Have seen some a long way from water, overlanding to the next water I guess

Quick google search says they are so that could be what left these tracks

I didn’t think about an otter. I just looked up otter tracks and found what I think is an exact match. The San Jacinto River is only about 1/4 mile from there. Also the spacing of the steps are spot on as well. It’s been about 30yrs sense I’ve seen an otter in that area but that looks to be what I might have here. There’s a 3 acre lake only about 200yrs from there as well.

Yup, with that picture there it is an otter. I've seen otter tracks a LONG ways from water on occasion, crossing ridges from one drainage to another. I can remember walking up and down staring at tracks in the snow, trying to figure out what they are. When it finally dawns on me, it's an otter.
