you know how the ole saying goes. that will be good this winter when it gets cold and the snow flies! well guess what? got a jug out of thefreezer. flour salt pepper. brown it in cast iron skillet. transfer to dutch oven. add soup of your choice. potatoes a few carrots. place on the wood stove. drink beers n tie knots till done. gotta better recipe?

We brown the turtle in cast iron once it’s done add flour and butter to make a roux put chicken broth carrots potatoes celery onions and bell pepper in Dutch oven then add turtle meat and the roux will thicken it to a stew not a soup

I still think our” NEW “ snapping turtle regs are boloney,,,used to be 8 per day, 16 in possession and year round harvest…. Now it’s 2 per day, 4 total possession,,, June 15-to October 31…
Used to see them thru the ice and chop down to get them.
If you catch an incidental snapping turtle on your trot line , say in April or May, and it’s swallowed a hook,,, you can’t keep it,,, so you’ve wasted a resource…
There’s snappers in practically every body of water in Illinois and there’s not a lot of people harvesting them,,, absolute government overreach
