None of the coyotes taken in bordering states can be turned in for bounty, right? Which is why a lot of bounty's don't work.....lol Apparently a lot of Manitoba coyote feet wound up in Saskatchewan way beck when.

Word is, the Utah Division of Wildlife is upping the bounty on coyotes from $50 to $100 in certain high density deer areas. I'm not sure how I feel about it. I'm nervous every "wanna be" predator hunter and trapper will be out from August to April. On the other hand It will be nice to know if some do show up in your traps they will be worth at least $100 plus pelt value. I guess we'll see what happens. Would like to see that go into place back here in ohio, I've always gotten pushback with the statement.....animals will only be imported from neighboring states..........why not dept of wildlife in states.........require before payment approved........multipe photos of carcass in trap alive or dead with gps location........red flags of cheaters will easily surface.........no firearm harvesting.........a kid or kids computer gurus from high school could be brought on as volunteer intern .......who has intrest in wild life department career.....to track from home and give reports to game wardens to check for trapping fraud......deer and other wildlife could only benefit from this predator numbers knocked down ......its a win win .........eradicate predator......increase wildlife numbers for humters and trappers......encourage wild life careers for youth

I thought most states had figured that bounties don't really work very well. Most state wildlife agencies figured out a long time ago that bounties can be a drain on their agency funding sources which has influenced the results of many predator control studies. True, but with the value of coyote pelts falling through the floor, and an explosion of predators, how will that impact fawn recruitment. AND, then deer hunting success, which of course is the golden goose of revenue for most states. Not to mention the coons, skunks and other nest raiders that impact small game.

To participate in Utah's coyote bounty program you have to take an online course, download an app on your phone, open the app and take a photo of each coyote at the time and place of kill. The app records the date, time and coordinates of the kill. So coyotes from outside Utah will not get in for reimbursement. The increase to $100 will apply to specific deer management areas. Adult cougars can be harvested by anyone with a valid Utah hunting license statewide (except parks and tribal land). No closed season. No limit. The carcass / hide must be taken to DWR within a couple days to have the premolars taken (for aging purposes) and to have a permanent seal put in the pelt. Black bear harvest will also be liberalized in certain units to increase deer survival. The DWR has been doing intensive deer population monitoring with radio collars. When a collared deer dies they try to get there quickly and determine cause of death. They are finding predation is suppressing populations in some units. They recently put out a press release asking sportsmen to take more cougars in those units. You can see a short explanation of their take on mule deer management and predation by watching a video "Utah mule deer statewide management plan, 2025–30" (starting at about 14:10) on the recent RAC meeting agenda and proposals: https://wildlife.utah.gov/agendas-materials-minutes.html

It sounds like there is good science behind the program and plans to evaluate effectiveness. But, I'm sure regardless of the outcome many will continue to repeat the same old "bounties and predator management programs don't work".

What is wrong with doing something the antis hate? It's all in the wording. F4WM calls it a reimbursement. "Bounties' generally don't work, but why call it something that the anti's will use as ammo to get rid of any monetary funding. https://f4wm.org/reimbursement/F4WM doesn't just call it reimbursement. You have to provide receipts to get paid. It basically reimburses you for your expenses. Just means you aren't losing quite aa much money chasing wolves.
Sometimes nothing can be a real cool hand
