Not to offend anyone, but I'm doubting -70. I've only seen -50 a few times working on the slope, -40 is pretty standard stuff. The coldest temp ever recorded in deadhorse was -62 and it was 30 years ago when I was still wet behind the ears Almost every year it gets to at least -60. Keep on eye on North Pole temps you’ll see what I mean. We live in a valley right next to the Chena River and it is known locally as the coldest spot around Fairbanks. Last year we got down to -65 For modern times last year’s cold snap was significant for duration and intensity. Don’t have to go back too far and it was more common. I’m glad I was at the main cabin and not stuck at the little line shack ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2025/01/full-8362-244170-c8d17fa8_8948_4b30_9346_d0c8a064087e.png) ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2025/01/full-8362-244171-03d2f975_a2c1_4445_973c_7e7f10b2bb5d.jpeg)

It’s been a while since a good old Fairbanks -60 3 week long cold snap! Ice fog so bad that you can’t see 100 feet.
If your going to trap here you got to be tough!

I love the smell of burning spruce---I love the sound of a spring time goose---I love the feel of 40 below---from my trapline I will never go!

y'all are tough I have only experienced down to negative 10 or so does not get in the negative very often here and never long. Was 4° yesterday morning and in mid 20s this morning. Got warmer started melting the snow and making mud. After geting the rest of the wood we got cut up to the house in the morning I'm going to have to go stomp some brush for the boys before the snow is gone. Should be good for a rabbit or two.

It’s not good for walking a trapline It’s a good time to catch up on indoor projects. No matter how cold it is I make a point of getting outside for at least a couple hours. Pretty cool to see a grouse puffed up almost big as a basketball in those temps.

-58 and a very light breeze north of Thompson. The bucket & digger truck just sit, gotta use the spurs. The trick is to freeze your fingers up to the knuckles but don’t climb down to warm up. Stop and clap/swing your arms around until they start to thaw, then after that incredible pain comes that you can feel in your heart. But once they’re thawed, you’re good all day. If you go in to eat lunch, you start the freezing process over again. The guys today stop and go down every 5 or 10 minutes and nothing gets done. In a power outage, it’s gotta get done, can’t wait till it warms up, that’s when us “old” dummies get the call…lol

I remember numerous times we would go up in pairs with spurs on to get the job done. One would work as long as he could till he couldn't feel his fingers than the other would finish up. I still wouldn't not have traded those years for anything or any other job on earth. Stay safe Brother!!
