On my already mentioned beaver job, there are two dams within 30 yards of each other. The stream is only 25 feet wide at its widest point. Between the two dams I found a bank den. The upper dam has a distinct crossover that has a 330 guarding. There is not a visible crossover on the lower dam. Is the lower dam considered the "main" dam or does it not really matter?
Thanks

The smaller dams are called "breaker dams" around here.
The big dam upstream from these smaller dams is the main dam. And at times it is hard to distinguish where the beaver re crossing over.

If there is a crossover on the upper dam the beaver is most likely living in the upper pond.
Beaver create dams downstream from the main pond to safely access feed sources.
There are exceptions though.
A deadly set is a submerged 330 with a dive pole at the bottom of the crossover in the channel between dams.
In some cases you can set 2 or 3 in series and pick up multiple catches on extended checks.

Forget that fear of gravity-get a little savagery in your life.

All very good intel. Thanks. I’ll take a closer look tomorrow.

When I run into that scenario, I open a hole in the lower dam to give the upstream beavers incentive to use the crossover on the upper dam to fix the hole.

That is my plan for today. I plan to set a dam break set at the opened hole and additional 330 below the crossover.

Thanks to all for the intel.
