I did a video on YouTube for guy that builds saws for me .the title I believe was mastermind 372 . It is the plunge cut method, notch was already cut before I started camera. Your basically cutting from hinge back to the trigger so your always in control. If this tree was cut with West Coast method it would have easily baberchaired.

WOW!!
I have cut 1000'S of trees and not sure I seen that before. It made me cringe just watching some of those cuts they were making.

I had my nose sewn back on from a tree barber chairing. Chock it up to lack of experience. It could have been fatal if it would have hooked me under the chin but it caught one nostril.

If you want what can be literally hours of entertainment go on youtube and search chainsaw or tree cutting failures.
Most common rookie mistakes; no hinge-wood, no wedges, and relying on ropes to pull a tree the direction you want it to fall.

The tensions will throw you for a loop with them stinking root ball still pulling it. Especially when the trees laying on a power line and you’re trying to clear it. Lots of pinched saws…lol

Tree splits in half when the face closes and the back half kicks up like a lever. There's many ways to stop it: cut faster in the back cut, open the face cut wider, don't go with the predominant lean, wrap a chain around the tree above where you're going to cut to hold it together. If they're really really rotten I cripple them and whack them with another tree

I am far from a professional but back when I used to cut "big" trees, a boring back cut was my favorite. When you finally pop that backstrap, things happen fast.

If you leave too much hinge when the tree starts to go over it will split up the tree instead of breaking off, shoot back at you and roll to one side or the other.

It works good with spruce and yellow cedar. Not so good in hemlock or red cedar

It's one of my least favorite cuts, I must be getting old.

Larger alder is prone to it here. A hungry saw is your friend. Cut it faster than it can react to gravity, to a point.

Last week two men were killed when the bucket they were both in tipped over while trimming trees. It was in my part of Wisconsin. The news report stated the bucket vehicle was on a slight incline. They were 61 and 63 years old.Quite a tragedy. Both had the same last name and might have been brothers.

Alder is bad, it's always loaded and ready to explode. Fortunately they have no commercial value, we just cut them to make things easier/safer for the rigging men, so I cripple a bunch of them and blast a big spruce through them and mash them into firewood

I use drive trees all the time, it's easier than wedging, easier than packing in a jack set, and they're never too rotten to hit with something, even if they're too rotten to swing

I have a fair amount of Bitternut Hickory here at the Lake. It is often barber chaired standing , before you ever touch a saw to it. Makes it challenging tipping it but you save time splitting and it makes a fine firewood !

I like this strapping or chaining the trunk idea to prevent barber chair. I’ve never seen it done before.
