Now those are some big trees. There's one real fuzzy picture there where you can see my hickory shirt folded on the stump for reference, that's the biggest one I've personally cut 12'4" across the stump. Even with a 72" bar I missed a post on the far corner

We have very few trees that are anywhere near that diameter in Ohio. The largest tree I've ever dropped wasn't much more than 40" and not even close to those in height. Do you still get a thrill out of dropping those big trees?
I've enjoyed gathering and later cutting wood, since I was a child.
Keith Generally no, but once in a while I get thrown something real sporty. Cutting on sea cliffs gets my blood pumping, but someone has to cut them, and odin favors the brave they say

Sitka spruce or does Douglas fir get that far north as well...?
Tongass NF, Native, or other private ownership?
Very few large trees such as those now harvested anywhere in the US of A anymore. You are in an unique situation at this point of time. Have "fun" and take care!!

I cut a lot of native ground when our corporation was still logging, Sealaska stopped logging our ground in 2020. So now it's all forest service or state ground

Now those are some big trees. There's one real fuzzy picture there where you can see my hickory shirt folded on the stump for reference, that's the biggest one I've personally cut 12'4" across the stump. Even with a 72" bar I missed a post on the far corner Now that's a tree. I don't think I have ever even seen a tree that big in my life. Biggest Tree I ever had to do anything with was a huge sycamore way back on a corner property line inaccessible on a powered line right of way. It was big enough I couldn't get around it with several buck straps and even If I could have would not have Beek able to flip them. . With spikes I couldn't climb it my arms were strait out and nothing to hold onto. Had to shoot a rope in it and go uo the rope and that was years before I learned about a Panton and still did that the hard way. And on that tree I only removed one limb. I can't imagine dropping trees that large. Largest I ever dropped was again in a woods on a property line a big oak absolutely huge for thie area but a sapling compared to what you have cut. I was working for for a line clearance contractor and used an 088 can't remember the bar length. didn't get to use it before or after. Company keep one 88 and two 066 and would send them out only when there was a rare large tree removal. Typically only keep 20"and 24" on the truck for ground saws. Like Keith said we just don't have trees like that. Boy I was nervous dropping what I thought were big boys way back then. I also felt like a hot shot when done. I can't imagine doing what you do and have done. That is really something. Something very few men alive on the planet have done or will ever do. Talk about accomplishments. I always enjoyed doing jobs few would or could do like building cell towers. But nothing I have done even comparis To felling trees like that just Wow!!!. How many people living or dead do you think have ever dropped a 12' tree not many i would say . how tall was it?

So now it's all forest service or state ground I forgot how much land the state owns up there. I think its something such as 20%. Good luck to you all and stay safe. It takes some serious skill to drop those big trees safely and mostly not on level ground.
