Paint it blaze orange, Danny. Easier to keep track of if you can see it! Yep ^ this. I tie orange ribbon on everything. Even fishing gear knife, plier and things that I need when walking into fishing sights. Really does make a difference on loosing items.

Looks good and should last for years Unless you run over it or lose it like some folks apparently do (I have not run over any of my stuff yet but have had to backtrack several time to find some of it )

It didn't survive. I was painting some stuff with cheap blaze marking paint I had left over but it rubs off easily. Anyone have any high quality pain or coatings for tools that will last and hold up. I just picked up 2 3/8 extensions a socket and wrench up from melting snow and mud in the yard my youngest left out and ended up there working on his 4 wheeler. After reading a post about I want all the tools painted orange. Buying more gets old as dose having the socket or wrench you need missing.

I lost one the other day trapping with 6 grandkids all in grade school. We only had about 1/2 dozen locations set. Had a pickup full of fun but was like herding goldfish in a swimming pool to keep up with them. Every stop they would be climbing in the jeeps bed etc. Real adventure. Sifter disappeared never to be found. It was a cheapy and not long for this world anyway. Daughter gave me an old loaf pan she had been feeding rabbits with and I drilled a bunch of holes in it. Got me by but far from decent tool. Price of a good steel one and shipping I figured I would make my own. I am confident those kids want PaPa to come back next year. My plan is only a few sets again and inventory after every stop.
I don't have a metal bending brake for the screen so I marked where I wanted to bend it and used my vise. Bending the long side a little at a time. The sides of the frame were cut to length and each corner welded first. I then set the frame on the screen and traced the the inside of the screen using a felt tip marker. Measured a half inch bigger so I could bend it to fit in the frame. I then used a metal stamp for a spacer so the screen sets up about 3/8 higher than flush. I like to set my sifter right ontop the trap to finish the set sometimes.

It holds up pretty well, unlike the marking paint.

Powder coat holds up best, but you need a powder coat gun and an old oven. You would go broke paying a shop to powder coat all your tools. I'd use paint on a lot of things, but I don't think I would on a sifter, feel like I would have flakes of orange paint in the dirt I was sifting.
I wanted a bigger sifter and lightweight, so I just went down to the thrift store and bought a rectangular cake pan and drew a grid on it and drilled the bottom full of holes. Works good, so I made another one as a spare for whenever I lost, ran over or otherwise destroyed the one I had. Since I am prepared with a spare, my original has worked for years without anything happening to it. Lol. I don't use a sifter that much any more though, make more snow sets that dirt sets, and even in the dirt I am usually using waxed sand, so the sifter gets used to corral all the dirt that I dig out of the trap bed, and maybe sift just a bit over to blend, more often than not I'm blending with needles and duff though that I just rub between my gloved hands at chest high and let fall naturally. So it is just used to cart the overburden away from the set.

I need one I can rub clumps of grass in dug out of the trap bed. That screen I bought one side is rough. Not like expanded metal but I dont like expanded metal. Have had a small pebble hold a trap open enough to get an escape. More than once. Hail screen with about 3/16 holes works but rubbing those clumps to get the dirt back in the set it dont last long. Nothing is perfect. Dont think I will paint this one. Loss isnt a big deal when its just me.
