Just my opinion here......

..America's young men were headed in better direction when they got draft card in mail that you put in wallet ............called in for physical........put on bus for bootcamp......after approx 2 years you were free again.........but during time you learned......discipline....respect........were physically and mentally tuned to the max.......ready to move into the world and success .......or further education paid with G I benefit......with out the mandatory draft American society has lost out..........thats why the men coming home from military service were always looked up to........... sharp and shined to the T.

Don't want to start arguing....just young men from 18 to 22 were in a better position back than now.....I think.....

They don't make men like they used to. It would be a disaster if they drafted all the gender confused blue haired freaks that are drafting age right now.

Canada will need a border wall,we will be over run with draft dodgers like back in the 70s.

Canada already makes it a pain to come across. I've bought several trucks in the L48 and when it's time to drive through, the Canadian BP wants to tear the whole truck apart, dig through luggage, and leave all your s*** scattered all over the cab when they're done. When it's time to cross back at the Al-Can crossing, they're super easy to deal with. Last time they didn't even ask for anything other than my drivers license...they asked if the truck was in my name (didn't even look at the registration) and told me to drive safe lol

That's not a free country then. No thanks.....were they in a better place back then? I don't think so. Just look around and see what they got. They just gotta go get it.

I think it is a good idea too.
1. it is my opinion that everyone should have skin in the game. Consider how different our government might be if we had politicians who had served in the military. We might not be quite so quick to get involved in other people's business. The same should be true of taxation. Everyone should pay something IMO
2. this is more important IMO...............By having a continuous cycle of civilians through the services it pretty much guarantees that we never develop a situation where the military forgets it is ultimately under the control of civilian authority. I think Milley and Austin were nearly to that point.

Many countries require all their young men to serve in their military, usually for a year or two. I think that's generally a good idea. People willing to fight and potentially die for a country are more likely to vote in ways that benefit that country, even if it goes against their own self interest. I don't think it would be a bad idea to tie voting rights to having first served in the military.

It's not a bad idea... only problem is you get a lot that don't want to be there and they cause problems, reason why they went volunteer in the first place, but two years of military or other national service might straighten out at least some of the misfits....

Yeah, the draft worked so well during the Viet Nam War. So the politicians and the military industrial complex can start some more needless wars and have an endless supply of cannon fodder, while they enrich themselves and stockholders.

I would be more agreeable to mandatory military service for everyone, but the rich and well connected would be able to avoid it.

Pretty much all causes can be judged as unjust or just based on different perspectives. All causes are actually in between, with some being more or less just than others.

Statistically,, based on their percentage of the population. The children of rich people and politicians both serve much more often then the children of poor people. I've posted the numbers before.

A military made up of mostly people who don't want to be there. What could possibly go wrong?

Interested to hear why you think the draft did or didn't work well during Vietnam

Canada has not had to do much fighting in any of the wars the British Commonwealth engaged in, and nothing in the Vietnam war, (which may have been smart). During WWII the United States had as many troops killed as the whole sum total the Canadian military had in service. And, Boco, you're right about how to fix our southern border. I personally deal with "Coyotes" with the shoot, shovel and shutup method, at least in the winter I skin them.
