I would be more agreeable to mandatory military service for everyone, but the rich and well connected would be able to avoid it.
You mean like Captain Bonespurs? Remember William Lyon Mackenzie King? The Canadian Prime Minister.

You mean like Captain Bonespurs? As I have posted in response to the lies about this ad nauseum. President Donald Trump did not dodge the draft. Even liberal supporter Snopes, after intensive investigation, found no evidence that anything illegal or improper was done to prevent Trump from serving. https://www.snopes.com/news/2016/08/02/donald-trumps-draft-defermentsFrom Snopes: "While attending the University of Pennsylvania’s prestigious Wharton School of Finance, Mr. Trump received a minor medical deferment for bone spurs on both heels of his feet. The medical deferment was expected to be short-term and he was therefore entered in the military draft lottery, where he received an extremely high number, 356 out of 365." His high draft number was never chosen, but it could have been. He was enrolled in the draft as he was supposed to be. He did not dodge the draft. He just was not chosen. Keith

when i came back from viet nam i was spit on It's a shame how many sorry pieces of trash are in this country. The ones who did stuff like that are probably the Nancy Pelosi's and Chuck Schumer's of today. It's not even worth your time to think about them.

I think it is a good idea too. 1. it is my opinion that everyone should have skin in the game. Consider how different our government might be if we had politicians who had served in the military. We might not be quite so quick to get involved in other people's business. The same should be true of taxation. Everyone should pay something IMO 2. this is more important IMO...............By having a continuous cycle of civilians through the services it pretty much guarantees that we never develop a situation where the military forgets it is ultimately under the control of civilian authority. I think Milley and Austin were nearly to that point. Agreed , including the taxation

I think Milley and Austin were nearly to that point. I would add that by putting some of these 18 year old gang members in the service may teach them a skill, a work ethic and to respect authority. I am not saying that everyone serving needs to carry a rifle but there are a LOT of support functions that need people too. Too many people in military? Farm them out doing community work. Cutting brush and building fire breaks comes to mind. We will have to pay them in the military or on welfare so we may as well get some work out of them and try to teach them skills to be employable.
I have nothing clever to put here.

The Army has a fat boy program now for those wanting to enlist but cant pass the minimum physical fitness standards. I dont know what that is today but when I went I thought it was laughably easy. The training was hard. Not entrance requirements. Some were "set back" that couldnt keep up with increasing physical demands into exorcise programs till they could continue basic.
If military service becomes a requirement for all for anybody mentally capable, we better start PE in school again.
I think its a good idea. Maybe six months of training then a couple weeks twice a year for a few years. Set minimum PE standards. Cant pass? Back to boot camp to get back in shape. Could still have a full time volunteer military. would not interfere with college plans. Colleges would just work around it. Those wanting Officer school would be better prepared when they get their degree. Military would have plenty of info to determine who gets accepted.

Just my opinion here......
..America's young men were headed in better direction when they got draft card in mail that you put in wallet ............called in for physical........put on bus for bootcamp......after approx 2 years you were free again.........but during time you learned......discipline....respect........were physically and mentally tuned to the max.......ready to move into the world and success .......or further education paid with G I benefit......with out the mandatory draft American society has lost out..........thats why the men coming home from military service were always looked up to........... sharp and shined to the T.
Don't want to start arguing....just young men from 18 to 22 were in a better position back than now.....I think.....
You might be onto something ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2025/01/full-866-244495-r_13.jpg) On the bright side, there are some young boys that can't outrun the cops without tripping.
I have nothing clever to put here.
