Don’t be so impatient. Rusty and crew are trying to clean up and get headed home. The chaos after a fur sale is crazy. If you are so concerned, why aren’t you there in person??

No idea about cats at the sale as I wasn’t there.

I’m sure Rusty will be posting results as soon as possible. Right now I assume he is looking forward to getting some sleep. Running a sale , even with lots of volunteers, takes a lot of time and energy.

only about 65 cats there and sold really well considering quality available....90% were from new mexico ( southwest cats) and washington state. a couple of idaho cats and a handful of easterns. not a true test of the market yet. still early for cats as people are still trapping.

My beaver demo went well. I chose wisely. A nice fat XL beaver with no bites or scar tissue. Easy skinner.
....i heard alot of people saying / talking about how impressed they were with the demo..great job!!!

OK, I just got home. I stayed around until I could get the master sheet for sold goods so that you guys/gals can harangue me for info and I can meter it out morsel by morsel.

The only thing I had that didn't meet my minimum was my cat. I put a minimum of $95 on it.

In truth, it looked better in the round than after the put up. But that's typical for coastal cats.

My gray fox right next to it brought a shade over $23

Turns out I've been putting up beaver wrong all these years. They're supposed to look like this:

The belly spots are much more clear in the round. Could the difference be in how you brushed the hide?

I wonder if you held a shop vac tool over the center of each spot, to fluff it that way, if it would work better. I used to preserve hides with borax and fluff them with shop vacs. It worked well.

That's what I do too. Boraxed and fluffed up. Pic would look different if I combed the fur forward.

For those of you that put up rats here is the proper way! LOL You'r probably dying to know what these sold for? 12 of them brought an $8.91 avg.

BTW, I averaged $3.33 on my rat on this sale. (Conventional stretch).

A few more pics of the sale:

[Linked Image]

Took this pic this morning so they're already bundled and ready to be shagged (delivered to buyer).

Quite a few skunks on this sale. I figure trappers from other states are starting to figure out that out west they'll get more money for 'em.

This is the part of the building where a lot of the craft goods are displayed. Pheasant skins, porky guard hair, turtle shells, castor, etc etc. Hanging on the right a lot of tanned fur.

Beaverpeeler's beaver:

Closest pile of 27 good blankets fetched a $41.21 avg, 2nd pile of 11 light/ and or dmg blankets averaged $32.90, next pile of 14 good XL's averaged $25.81 and the last pile of 5 kits (medium to LM) avg was $12.05 These mostly all sold to crafters.

All of this before commissions taken out.

And in other good news; I averaged $70 on three otters, and $66 on three feet-on civets!

$37/lb on castor.

Carl, thanks for posting the pictures. Looks like a decent size sale.

Do you lot your beaver by size in small lots to accommodate the crafters, knowing they can’t afford large quantities in one lot. Do you think the crafters filled their orders at this sale or do you think they will be back for more in March? Just curious.

Those round muskrats with tails are cute.

I'm used to the March sale, so that thing looks empty to me! Last couple years all the crafty miscelleanous hasn't even fit in the building, they have had to put it in other buildings. The room in the first pic will be full of hair out fur and the room in the next couple will be crammed with grease fur.
