I have some longspring, underspring, and coilspring traps, all no 1. I want to make some under ice sets, any ideas?

You can also set runs in shallow water right by the bank or shore line. Put trap in the center of the run, how it was done before conibears.

Can you trap inside the huts? That's the eaisest way but not legal everywhere

There are no huts, just tunnels into the bank under 4 inches of ice

Take some time and scour the "achieves" on here. There is tons of great info along with pictures. Some guys have taken the time to create extensive write up along with pictures that are invaluable. The achieve are an endless source of information.

You'll want to use traps with nail holes in them, bring finish nails along with you, and some 2x4's. Cut holes in the ice, set your nail at the right depth so the traps won't freeze in, add another nail above the trap nail for a carrot or apple slice. Nail your bait on, set your trap and hang it on the appropriate nail (wire the chain to the 2x4 above the surface) then slide the whole setup into a hole and try to push the board into the bottom a little if you can at about a 45° angle so it creates a baited ramp for them

If it's legal in your state a colony trap is a great option for tunnels into the bank. I've had as many a 5 rats in one colony trap overnight.
