I've pretty much always owed at the end of the year, but apparently I'm getting a refund this go around (first time in 10 years). I know they're just giving me my own money back that I over paid, but it put me in a better mood than seeing taxes withheld all year just to owe a couple grand every tax season.

Have not got all the forms. Should start going through and putting the finishing touches On the farms taxes in the next few weeks. General I get a fare return from federal and it's hit and miss on state. some years it's a small return others I pay a little. Should get a return from state with the tax credit on the 529 contributions.

Kids and home tax credits. Claim a hobby farm as a net loss for more credits. Just my assumptions, he can explain it if he wants to.

Making good money doesn't mean a guy shouldn't get a refund if he over paid. I pay in a stupid amount all year, and I'm happy to get some back, even if it's a pittance compared to what I paid in. My 2 week paystubs each show over $2k in tax withholding.

I got you, I was just saying if you legitimately paid too much you should get it back.

Not arguing that.....

but should we be looking at who " we should be considering gets too much back?"

Should a self-proclaimed millionaire be getting more back in taxes than a bartender supporting 3 kids????

IMO no one should get ANYTHING back......

Still waiting on forms here.

My fear of moving stairs is escalating!

My biggest gripe is when those who get a refund for more than they paid in.

Fair enough. I think our nation was fine prior to income tax (started as "war tax" during WW1, and never went away) so personally I feel like I'm being stolen from when I see my pay stubs. But it's something we all deal with I guess. I'm not anyone's accountant, so I don't know what anyone else should or shouldn't be getting back/owing. That said, I'd like to accumulate millions and figure out how to avoid taxes on it someday lol. They say you can become a millionaire in the timber industry...if you start as a billionaire

Totally agree on that. Cranking out children should not be a career option

Naturally More emotional issues. Have you considered therapy?

If you educated yourself you could learn how to maximize your income and utilize the tax code.

If your feeling sorry for the bartender with 3 kids maybe you could donate some cash to them or maybe explain how their choices are why they are struggling.

Considered I pay more in taxes than your hypothetical bartender and highly likey you make In a year and with their low "claimed" income, earned income, and child tax credits your bartender will get a refund 200% more than they paid in.

Im sorry you are in such a sad situation in your life you feel the need to continue this with me every chance you get.

If your unsatisfied only you can make the changes to improve and change your situation. Lashing out at others is very unbecoming and sad.

And I never said I'm a millionaire . I said I should be able to hit that goal in the future with sacrifices and good investing by retirement. If you are jealous you can hit that mark also if your willing to do the work and make the sacrifices.

Yotetrapper30 here is an example of self education and utilizing the tax code. My daughter is in nursing school. instead of just paying the tuition I put 7500 of it last year in a 529 college savings account for a month or 2 then paid it to the school. Why bother Indiana gives a 20% tax credit on contributions into the 529 up to $1500 for married tax filers. So by opening the account I will get a $1,500 State tax credit for 2024.

Learn what's available and utilize it to your advantage.

Taxes for myself are pretty straight forward since I retired almost 6 years ago. 100% of my income is dividend income from eligible stocks, from which I pay no income tax. I have my income taxes filed by an accountant every year.

I’m appalled. I now pay more in taxes than I actually made 30years ago.
