Hi All..

Didn’t get out to trap last year due to an ankle injury but am glad to be out in the woods this year!

I’m planning to travel to Haines for a week and was wondering if anyone had any advice on sets for lynx. I know it isn’t much time but we don’t have them down by where I usually trap. Want to capitalize on this if I can… I understand finding rabbit populations is key and will likely be using snares for ease and weight to make more sets.

Still on the chase.

Don't overthink this! Spend more time finding lynx sign and less time worrying about on how to set!

Simple cubbies have worked just fine for many years. Hare fur for bait and eye appeal. Some decent lure.

You will be fine.

Pete

Does the Haines area have snow? You can make trails thru the brush/snow and set in your trail. I used to use a 10 in. loop, 10 in. off the ground. Another forum member said 9 in. loop, 11 in. off the ground would reduce body and kitten catches. Worked for me.

Haines does get snow… when winters are better than current. Been depressing here in southeast with very minimal snow sticking around. If snow doesn’t pick up this may become a next year mission and I’ll try to give myself more time. I need to go fix our cabin up there anyways, bear ripped the door off this fall and raided our canned goods.

Finding sign is always the go to; I appreciate the advice not to overthink it. Just fun to dream about different fur. This trip might end up just being scouting.

I’ll try to take some pictures on the line this week. Been slow with only a few mink and marten. Fingers crossed for snow!

Still on the chase.

On a good year Haines probably gets the most snow in the state. It's in a good spot for it, further north than most of SE, but a lot more precipitation than anywhere further north.
