All southern guys talking about got first ever skiff of snow made me think could maybe use a tip. We haven't gotten much snow here in WI yet this winter. Did get a dusting overnight and few flakes buzzing around now.

I dropped the wife off for a hair appointment then took a drive instead of just sit waiting. I always looking at the woods and fields along the roads see what I can see. Back when I was pounding coon it trails I learned a way to find those trails.
The hill side in the photo below caught my eye as a good example of my method. I have for many years used the first snow fall to scout game trails. It seems best when it is just a skiff of snow. It almost paints some trails in the woods you had no idea they were there. Im pretty sure I posted about this some years ago. Maybe in the archives or lost in a crash?? Some where in all my stuff I believe I have and unpublished article complete with several photos? Know I wrote something pretty sure never sent it anywhere.
The photo is one spot I seen on my drive today just really pops so made me think of it.
Anyways you Southern guys who have never seen even a dusting of snow. Good time to take a drive over trapline. Might see some trails even a two track or logging road in woods never noticed.

Good point. Also a good time to drive by a 'rat marsh and look out over it. You'd be surprised how many 'rat huts suddenly "pop up" where none, or so it had seemed, had been before.

Yep Muskrat and the ones with bunch of rats might stand out best. Sometimes No snow..
It's kind of like looking for mushrooms or even a squirrel on a limb. You get your eyes right thing just pop out.

Good tip Mac. Sometimes those trails have a few raccoon tracks in them too.

And don't forget to frost scrape them beaver pelts!

Don't eat yellow snow.

For sure don't eat it but make yellow snow while you have the chance. See if you've got what it takes to write yer name...

Go rabbit hunting. Easy to see on the snow. Same with bedded up deer.

Nothing wrong with yellow snow, southern folks. That's just the sun melting.
