I have a slant logo19x9 flat Griswold griddle. It seems like it has a 745 on the back. It needs a cleaning and seasoned. I have four waffle irons with bases that need cleaned and seasoned too. My wife say I have to much cast iron. Just because I can't remember it all doesn't mean I have too much, does it.

Does the griddle have a #7 on the handle? And no, you can never have too much. You go tell your Wife that you said she is wrong!

She cooks on cast iron full time. But we live in a small old farm house. So there is not a lot of storage room. The griddle has a 8 on the back 745X slant log Griswold and ERIE. For waffle irons I have Griswold both a wire handle and wood handle, Wagner ware, a National and the last one I got is a Stover. I don't really like waffles much. But I like cast iron waffle irons.

You have some great CI! That slant logo is very desirable. At the top of my wish list is a Cruso waffle iron with the Rooster logo. Been after one a while with no joy yet!!

I can't say I have ever seen a Cruso waffle iron off the top of my head. Do you know anything about the Stover waffle iron. I saw a guy on you tube that had a pickup load of cast iron he had just un loaded and was showing what he just got. He said that the Stover he had was was rare. I saw it after I bought mine and am not sure if it is a certain Stover waffle iron or any and all. I will see if I can find the guys name. He cleans and resells CI for a living. He has pickup loads of it at a time.

They were out of Illinois and I believe all they made in CI were the waffle irons but not certain about that. I see them from time to time and believe they are a little rare. Is yours a high or low base? Low is supposedly for wood and coal stoves and high for gas stoves. What number is on yours?

It is a 8 low base. It seems like I have a 9, but remember what brand for sure, or if I even do. I often buy it and throw in the stack before my wife sees it That place I was talking about is Orphaned Iron. He sells on Etsy. He has 500+ pieces of cast iron cookware for sale on there.

Just a little glance at Stover WI's, looks like they had at least 6 variations which are changes in bases, crosses, paddles, hinges and what not. I seen where there isn't a lot of records for them but they were in business from 1879 to 1942 so they shouldn't be hard to date. Ya need to build onto the chicken coop to hide your CI.

Thanks Catch22 I knew Stover made a wood handle and wire/spring type. Mine has the spring type. I have no Idea about them really. I may have to look them up and see if I can learn about them. I could put those chickens in a chicken fryer too and just use the coop.

No problem, anytime! With the price of eggs right now it'd be cheaper to build on lol. Have a good one...

Nice. I need to get me a tub to put some in for bath. I have looked and not seen one the size I am hoping for.

They cleaned up good...I have a bunch in storage, mostly pans, I don't use them anymore as my wife can't handle the weight, so I picked up a couple carbon steel pans that are working out well. But I use my dutch oven for making stew, it's a Wagner, with a Carlisle lid, with the drip nubbies .... I know it's mis matched but fits well and makes the best stew.... The original crockpot, lol I do that too! Ya just can't beat cast iron!!

Nice No.4 I think some of my interest comes from the age. I am not sure why I like it as much as I do.

Funny how a CI pot or skillet will last several lifetimes, but we will all have dozens of them in the kitchen?????
