How long will fleshed and dried fur keep? #8321523

Hello all,
This is my first time posting here, I usually just lurk and learn, and honestly this question was the only reason I made my account as I haven’t seen it specifically asked or answered anywhere. Apologies if it was and I just missed it.
So my question is as stated in the title: how long does it last? I’m mainly curious about coyotes and beavers. If I ever manage to catch any, get them skinned, fleshed, stretched and dried, how long would I be able to hold on to them before either selling them or getting them tanned? I see a lot where guys will have the flattened dried furs stacked up like cordwood in their fur sheds, but how long could they stay stacked like that?
For context, I live and (attempt to) trap in western North Dakota, so temps are currently anywhere from cold to downright ridiculous. Is temperature as much of a concern once they are fleshed and dried?
Any tips, tricks, or info is much appreciated!

Once stretched dried and scraped clean pelts will keep in a freezer for several years.
If not in a freezer, they will deteriorate over the summer from grease burn and bug damage.
Even in winter if not in a freezer they are prone to damage from vermin.

Forget that fear of gravity-get a little savagery in your life.

highly reccomend putting out mouse/rat poison if not in your fur prep area every day a few years ago lost a bunch of really nice hides when rats moved in after a chicken coop was removed from the neigbours i was done trapping and hadnt been in the shed for a month went to bag my furs and ship and they all had been chewed on badly also FHA its better to ship to them as they have the space and equipment too store over say summer months

What does everyone think if they’re kept indoors? My attic is encapsulated so it stays pretty much the same temp as the rest of the house with about the same humidity. I was hoping I could keep some furs up there for at least a couple years before taking to a buyer.

You're going to be much better off putting them in a freezer. Constant temp, no bugs.

They will get bugs at some point. Deep freeze them

Hung a beaver hide in our garage for a year then sent it in for tanning, no issues at all.
Not everyone has bugs.

I leave mine hung up in my basement. Had some that were down there 2 years and didn’t have any problems. I’ve heard folks say you can cover them in sevendust while in storage as well.
