Looking to do a September or October trip to Yellow Stone trying to hit the elk rut. We did the PA elk rut on September 30th a few years back and hit it pretty good. When do you think would be a good time to try. I was thinking more of September out there. Any guess on a date would be help full. Thanks for any help you can give.

Usually starts good mid September and first week of October is prime time.

Mid-September should be screaming their heads off. Rut can start late August to run through Early October. That ~ middle part of September can be a hot time.

I don't think I am special enough to be able to use a weapon inside the park. But if there is a way fill me in please.

Sweet photo. We were there in PA checking that out and it was really cool. Was hoping to hit Yellowstone like that it would be cool to see again.

There's also good activity up at the CMR in the Missouri Breaks. Different kind of scenery, but good elk activity. There's a viewing area, Slippery Ann that folks speak highly of. Park was a lot better years ago before they shoved wolves on us, still some though, they seem to hang more around Mammoth now

Your lucky to see elk away from the buildings at yellowstone.
Thanks to wolves.

There's better elk viewing at Rocky mountain National Park in CO

There are tons of elk in Yellowstone, better book now as Sept is a popular time in the park for elk viewing.
You can also see wolves in Yellowstone along with the many elk.
