Thinking about this, a $94 average could be REALLY GOOD. They go through at the least one or two middlemen (like Turkey) who is not prevented from dealing with Russia and are known to have substantial markups. Maybe North American Sables with no middlemen will benefit from the high cost of the zigzag way Russian Sables have to enter the world market today? Thanks for correcting that link White17.

So some white guard hairs gets the pelt downgraded, but what is the buyer looking for? When I started, everyone told me that you want a nice pale female fisher. But my first auction, the bidders said that was BS, the big dark males brought the bigger $. All depends what the bidder wants.

That's a significant bump in the sable price since the Sept auction. Seems like good news.

This was definately true Shakey years ago but recently the big males have brought more than the females did.More square inches of fur-trust me when you dress the small females they become pretty small and it take a few to make anything out of them compared to one big male. I remember years ago getting $650 for a small pale female fisher-thats U.S. funds

Female fisher go into the garment trade, large males go into the trim trade.
Takes lots of skill to design a fisher fur coat.No skill to slap on trim.

Each one is unique. Not something that works in the chinese sweat shop factory.
Same fur design skills to make a wild mink garment.
Not many Italian fur design masters left I would think.

Since some seem to be confused, due to this post originating back in 2022, here is a breakdown of recent activity at this particular auction house.

January 2025 - 30,247 sable offered. 76% sold. Average $122

September 2024- 11,150 sable offered. 65% sold. Average $94

May 2024- 68,000 sable offered. 80% sold. Average $89

February 2024- 68,000 sable offered. 60% sold. Average $96

The other auction house, Sojuzpushnina is scheduled to hold its first sale at the end of February- early March.
