This contestant is one of three for a back to back gang set triple play. This particular set location next to a road has produced up to twelve catches in one season. The fresh catch circle of a young female got him in trouble. Adult Male – Flat Set – Remake

This big male topped off the triple play. He followed an adult female catch from the day before. I’ve heard it said many times it’s hard to catch coyotes when they have a full stomach. I have not found that to be the case here. Adult Male – Flat Set – First Night Catch – Remake

So, is the dropping essentially becoming the attractant for the set? The trap is placed in front of the dropping? I use them on remakes but keep the original set (dirt hole, flat, whatever) and place the dropping to the side of the trap for foot placement. Yes the poop becomes a focal point. I do not use it as a guide. I crowd the attractant with no offset. Any set or attractant that promotes digging is bad news here. Although bait works well at remakes, the digging seemed to cause more defeats than catches. All it takes is few savvy diggers on the line to cause a whole lot of problems. If I remake a set I want it to be because of a catch not a defeat.

But if traps are bedded solidly, shouldn’t chances of being dug up be just as low as the original set? Not being argumentative, just trying to understand your methods and reasons for doing what you do…… My apologies T67 I hit the post button before I was finished. I edited it after you posted. After the first catch the hard pan is gone on the remake. I do not dig another bed in the existing hard pan because it would be too low. I rake the circle level and bed the trap in the loose sand. It beds well with little issues. Whether it is on hard or loose soil, digging is bad for business in these parts.

And have you bought any lures recently from him ? I have not WR. I use lure very sparingly, so a bottle goes a long way. JL# 1 has produced the most coyotes for me. Coyotero & Winter Wolf usually run neck and neck for second place. I know a Gov. trapper out West that's had great luck with Coyotero.
