Any recommendations?
Sitting on 11 PP for elk. Looking to cash in the next year or two. Still debating about diy or outfitted. Probably archery but not sure on that either. Any advice?

Chamley Outfitting, Blake is a machine and his success rate with his archery hunters is outstanding. He does it all pretty much including Big Horn Sheep if I’m not mistaken.

I went after elk back in 1990 DIY and did 12 hunts in CO till 2008, once more in UT 2014. We figured go more often, pay the licence fee, but learn as we went. I killed 4 bulls and one cow, never succeeded with a bow, mostly muzzloader kills, 6x6 in UT was with a rifle and took 15 points and some luck to draw that tag. I was 35 when I started and have gotten too old for DIY hunts out west for elk.

Horse Track outfitters if you want a real backcountry experience. Out of Pray Montana. Long ride back in there somewhere around the Thoroughfare I think.

What kind of a hunt, back country or easier terrain ? Horseback or atv/vehicle type of hunt? 11 PPs is kind of no mans kind but some areas to draw. Type 9 archery tags do not allow you to hunt with a rifle later, keep that in mind. Not a fan of Table Mt but that is personal, they try to lease up everything. They do take some decent animals, and many so so animals. Have you looked over the draw odds for areas you can draw? https://wgfd.wyo.gov/media/30130/download?inline

Especially if you're bow hunting, get in better shape. Doesn't matter how good of shape you think you're in, work at getting in better shape. The better shape you are in, the more versatile you are, and the more options you/your guide has. There is a direct corollary between how in shape your hunters are and what your chances of success are. I'm in excellent shape, far better than the average person. Last time I went Elk hunting I laid down and decided to die on my way back out (Not really but I felt like it). The altitude is a killer for us flat landers.

Climb some taller trees and get that wind back!

Thanks everyone for the responses. Looked it up and I actually have 14 points for elk and 13 for deer. 15 for moose but think that’s a dead end with point creep. For elk, thinking back country (horseback) archery most likely. Need to look into draw odds more. And consider the point creep in the top-end units. Have hunted elk in CO a handful of times. Some DIY, some outfitted (semi-guided), all on foot, have taken 4 bulls, so sort of know what I’m getting myself into. Thanks again, and thanks for any additional advice.
