Have a flock of a dozen or so that have stayed here all winter. Been -10 to -20 every morning this week but they don't seen to mind.
We have a spring fed creek running through our property that never freezes so they spend some time down there. Not much snow this
year, a few years back we had quite a bit of snow and a flock stayed all winter also. Be interesting to know what they are finding to eat.

They are likely eating some worms and other invertebrates from near the spring and mostly berries that last on bushes until near bud sprout.

I hate robins , they migrate through here by the millions

They crap on everything , some hang out all winter , just so they can crap on everything

Myth : idk maybe , they eat juniper berries ( gin ) until they get drunk and fly into the house windows .

Did I mention they crap all over everything?

I've noticed rat trapping through the years that up here the only places I see robins in the dead of winter is open small cricks. Just like you described. Around here I'll see them in the sumac next to the cricks. I've always assumed that they're eating the sumac berries. I also see what I've always called snow bugs around these cricks. Small black insects. Not sure of the real name.

A Robin flew into our double- paned window and broke the outer glass. I swear to God he did.

Those are called Snow Fleas and are a type of Springtail. They are hexapods, but aren't actually insects. I used to see millions of Snow Fleas near some of the more pristine creeks I trapped in Winter. You mostly only notice them against snow or ice, but they are always there. They make good Winter bird food.

As long as our river doesn’t freeze solid we have some resident robins. They love hanging out in cedar trees along the river when it’s cold.

Thanks KiethC, I looked them up. You nailed it. Always wondered what they were called.

Have had Robin's in past years stay here all winter. Not sure what is going on here now. See few sparrows and couple morning doves. That is it. Not sure where the rest the regulars are? Pretty spares for all birds here this winter.

Robins stay around Green Bay in thick valleys where there is plenty of brush and running water. The rest of the birds seem to be MIA around me this winter.
