I'm thinking about buying a chainsaw mill to cut 8x8's out of fir. Just curious if anyone has any suggestions; Granberg versus knock-offs, saw size etc..

Zozen (from Amazon) has been good through three 10” dead ash logs about 10 ft a piece. As long as you have your first cut lined up properly it does a good job.

I’ve got a cheap one off Amazon. Works for me & my 32” XP272.
Ask on the wilderness forum, you should get a bunch more answers

I’ve only used the Granberg mill. Can’t remember what size I have but I can’t fit much more than a 25” bar on it. Longer than that you may want the extra bar oiler attachment. Mostly used 046 saw. I think your trees may be bigger. I bought 100’ roll of ripping chain and made my own loops.

I have been whittling on some big cedar power poles . Works good but slow Stihl 361 I forget the brand but it is sturdy and uses 3 5/16 set screws (triangle pattern ) to hook to bar . I just use for beams . 27 $ for 83 drivers worth of rip chain . It is good to have around the place ,60 miles for me get lumber . 24 in bar on my little saw.

You can ride a fast horse slow but you can't ride a slow horse fast .

I have some Amazon brand mill. What little I've used it, it works fine. Get a ripping chain and use plenty of good bar oil. I found out the hard way that using a regular chain and just the oiler on the saw isn't a good idea. Wore a bar out in short order.

I use 2 stihl ms661s. One for cutting a flat surface 1st cut then I pick up the mini mill with a chainsaw attached to it for cutting one of the sides. It's faster and you can call me lazy but I didn't like changing out the saws. The granberg Sawmill comes in different sizes. I have the 24 inch and the 36 in. You can also buy they on a 48 inch. The hardest thing for me was bending over. I bought a logosolF2. It's the perfect height (I'm 6'2" tall and old) and you only need one saw. It also cuts more precise. That's my 2 cents worth.
