I'm thinking about buying a chainsaw mill to cut 8x8's out of fir. Just curious if anyone has any suggestions; Granberg versus knock-offs, saw size etc..

I’ve got a cheap one off Amazon. Works for me & my 32” XP272. Ask on the wilderness forum, you should get a bunch more answers

Can’t remember what size I have but I can’t fit much more than a 25” bar on it. Longer than that you may want the extra bar oiler attachment. Mostly used 046 saw. I think your trees may be bigger. I bought 100’ roll of ripping chain and made my own loops.

I have been whittling on some big cedar power poles . Works good but slow Stihl 361 I forget the brand but it is sturdy and uses 3 5/16 set screws (triangle pattern ) to hook to bar . I just use for beams . 27 $ for 83 drivers worth of rip chain . It is good to have around the place ,60 miles for me get lumber . 24 in bar on my little saw.
You can ride a fast horse slow but you can't ride a slow horse fast .
