That looks so good!!! I never have had a house always go ice fishing in open sky. My son has a house though I have gone with him. As a kid my dad had access to a house we used often, and the memories are still with me.
Give me a fish, I will eat for a day. Teach me to fish, I will eat for a lifetime

Built what we called my permanent shack back in 1984 and is 9ft x 6ft inside. Sheet aluminum sides with 2x2 frame holding it together. One inch foam sheeting between the inside frame. Last time I had it on the ice was some time back in the mid 1990s. Although it can be taken down in sections to move it. Which is how it was moved on my boat trailer or ATV trailer. It is currently setting in my back yard with lawn mower in it. I don't have any new pictures easily posted. When my kids were little my brother and I would get the shack out as soon as ice was good. We spent a lot of time there and it made having the kids with easier. The one thing that sucked. Every time we would get to the shack. Always had to wonder if it would be broken into. Even though my shack was pretty bomb proof compared to most. Lexan windows couldn't just punch out. Always was someone just had to cut the lock go in. So we really never left much there we didn't want to loose. After my home made LP heater was stolen. I used what I guess is called sheep herders stove?? Little blued sheet metal thing. No one wanted to steal that so used it until rusted out. So my shack hasn't been on ice in years. I had a homemade portable I used for awhile when phased out using the big shack. Now I have a small portable actually kind of a pain to set up. Haven't had that on ice for couple years. When I go icefish now usually when it's nice enough to sit outside. Also don't usually go by myself anymore. My son has couple different pop up shelters way easier to use than mine.. The main idea of the permanent shack was to not have to haul all your gear every time. Use it as a warm base then fish around. But if you have to haul all your gear so don't get stolen. Might as well just do the pop up and go that route. Truck load of gear every time out unless just going like I did as a kid. Walk to river with bucket two small poles box waxies or small can minnow and spud bar. ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2025/01/full-1002-245387-img_20250125_095453986_hdr.jpg) Mac

Or maybe you have a vent?
If removing guns saves just one life it's worth it. Then if deporting illegals saves one life is that worth it?

Most of those new heaters are what they call clean burning and don't require venting

Muskrat That big shack of yours is basically the same as my first self built portable. I'm wondering if I didn't first see that plan in FF&G ??? Maybe WI outdoors? That was some time in the 1980s.
Mine was way smaller than yours looks to be. My floor was 4x6 with 3 holes, could fit two adults but was tight. Worked ok for myself and two kids when they were small. Mine was made from 2 sheets half inch plywood. Ends were 5ft tall which lett two 3ft pieces for the floor hence the 4x6 floor. Doesn't look like yours has a floor. I had the floor hinged in the middle. So I could lift it up in center, hinged on ends, let one end down on top of the end with runner's. Which on mine were opposite the door. First tarp I had on it was the blue plastic kind. When that one fell apart I replaced it with a brown one. It let less light in than the blue and actually made it easier to see.

Mac,
First ice shack I built I left on the ice up on the Prairie. Came down one afternoon to fish and I could see debris around it from a distance. Got closer and I saw the door busted off and whatever I had left in there was gone. Soaked it down with the Coleman fuel I brought along for the night bite and lit it up. That was the last "leave out there" shack I owned.

This one will probably be my last homemade one. I'm working on drop down skis for it that will allow me to crank it up a foot and drag it "expanded" to a new spot if I want. Right now it takes two guys to lift and shuffle it over. When it's time to go I just take out the closet rod and the two ends come together, flop it down on the skis and away I go. Slides into the back of the truck. That's 3/8" plywoord. 1/2" would be getting too heavy.

Nice digs but I think Mark's pictures inspire me more than anything else. Come on up LL and I will take you spear fishing. I will let you cut the hole too so you get the full effect.
