Our Russian friend sent this to us. Tatiana, she found this in a flea market website there. She thinks it is a hand-forged and probably imported, and probably an otter trap, and the seller lives near the White Sea, so Scandinavia is nearby. To me it is definitely a stop loss of some kind, don't want to get my foot caught in it......jk

That is a hand-forged otter trap. Probably German or French.

I wasn't aware that Russians could get anything out to US?

I think she sent pictures only, not the actual trap. The label on the side of the spray can is printed in Russian.

Eh...wot?

Bigbrownie

A wire or hand-twisted cable (similar to a snare) ran from upright at end of left side of trap in photo to trigger on right side of trap.
After depressing spring, opened jaws were held in flat position by dog with trigger/lever.

This trap was set perpendicular to otter trail or slide and fired by animal hitting the trip wire; then getting squeezed between clutch jaws.

Neat European trap...I have several models with/without teeth.
