Ok it’s that time of year again my back is giving me fits for quite a few years it acts up when cold damp weather hits last year I went to Dr and L3 L4 L5 And others in lower back are worn out and have arthritis in and on and around them Dr said it’s only gonna get worse so he recommended surgery I put it off then because he said it would be at least 6 month recovery I drive a truck and that’s the problem with long recovery I’m at the point now I’m just gonna have to get it done my question is for people that have had this issue and surgery what’s the pros and cons thanks in advance

Don't wait too long is one piece of advice. My dad put it off for a long time and ended up losing a lot of the function of his legs. His nerves were pinched real bad from years of driving heavy machinery.

Worked good for me. recovery takes awhile and not much fun.

I’m not really worried about money to pay bills that come in each month my Bride has done a fantastic job keeping me on track of spending lol and she a saver when it comes to money my deal is I’m thinking of a million things I need to do and get done before having the surgery I’ve got kids and grandkids but I always hate asking them to come help me do things I just hate being dependent on others

Had L4/5 fusion in June of ‘14. I was bow hunting out of tree stands by Oct. 1.

As stated above, don’t wait too long. Any motor damage due to nerve damage older than 6 months, 12 months max, will not come back.

It’s been this way for years but last couple years it’s gotten so bad I’ve has to get shots in back now today I’m walking like my right foot is in a clown shoe it’s like I’m taking a step with a shoe that’s way to big and it’s makin a thumping sound lol like a clown shoe not Menning it to be funny but best way to describe it and can’t lift leg and cross it over to put socks on my wife been doin that for 3 days now

Yeah go in for back surgery ASAP. Nerve damage like that can quickly snowball and you'll feel 10,000 times better afterwords. Your back will be stiffer than it used to be and you won't be able to bend as far, but it's way better than losing the function of your legs, which is a real possibility without intervention.

Nerve damage is permanent. Get it done ASAP.

Your foot symptoms sound like what is called drop foot. It will only get worse without surgery.

Have the surgery done and do exactly what your doctor tells you.

Before my surgery my left leg would just collapse. Without warning. Constant pain. Did not even want to walk to the bathroom. It does not do that anymore. For years I could not get up on the balls of my left foot. (tiptoe) I can now years after the surgery. I have to be careful how I do stuff. Last time it went out I turned around behind me and picked up my bird dog while I was twisted at the waist. Turned back and put him in my pickup. It was bad for several weeks. If I am careful about how I pick stuff up and how heavy I can do most anything.

I had heard all the back surgery horror stories but I was at a point that I had to do something. I think they get better at it all the time.

Had lower back surgery myseld with two rods,screws the whole bit.Listened to exactly what my doctor told me and walked,walked,and walked.Best thing that ever happened to me.No more falling and no more numbness in my left leg and pain in my back.

Oh I’m skeered for sure I don’t wanna be put under lol but got to do something I don’t take pain well lol and I don’t like takin pills so I’m gonna get it done just gotta make sure all my projects are finished and all that
