In the middle of the cedar swamp the beagles were roaring their heads off when the young guy Dylan got to them first.We could all the sudden hearing him start yelling but could not make out his words about a hundred yards off the road.Dogs started getting closer when we all see a 120 pound BEAR cross the road.We all spread out and caught the beagles as they tried to cross the road.Later Dylan told me the beagles had the bear bayed up in its open ended den about 5 feet away from him.The bear rolled my pup getting out of there but did not hurt him.Tough little dog.It sure was exciting for a few minutes

Dang Bruce, and hear I thought my father in laws beagles running deer was exciting. Think I might have needed a chamge of pants after a bear comes running by.

Glad no one had to tangle with bruin, man or dog, lol. I guess I am pretty lucky, my little beagle doesn't pay deer any mind, she can follow pheasant tracks on blacktop, seen her do it. Never know what you might run across up there eh?

glad your dogs are ok had a few dogs killed over the years from bears always those teenage bears the 100-200 seen to bay up faster and would rather fight than climb a tree

thats what I thought.Should be hibernating by now and the bear looked like it was in excellent shape.

Bear aren't true hibernators, they actually have a state of semi-hibernation that allows them to wake up easier. Means it easier to accidentally wake them up.
