A scientist put genes from snapdragon flowers that produce Anthocyanins into tomatoes, to create very purple tomato variety called "Purple". Seed from Purple are commercially available this Spring.

Here's how they made it.

What do you guys think about this?

I thought of a way to weaponize this technology I won't go into.

Those really are PURPLE, lol

First of all, I won't be trying them, red ones are good enough. Second, if they're sold to the public, I don't see how they can protect that patent, stuff happens.

I grow heirloom green beans that are purple.

When cooked or canned, they turn green, like a regular green bean.

I just leave some beans go for seed each year. Been doing that for years.[Linked Image]

I almost ordered some last year but then I realized they were a cherry and I wasn't too interested. Also all the legal stuff turned me off.

I grew purple English peas a few years ago. The hulls were purple but the peas were green.

Grew purple potatoes once as well.

Someone needs to make a full size version of those little orange ones... Sun Sugar/ Sun Gold.

Those are the absolute best.

They are really good. I'll grow a bunch of them this Spring for eating, canning and to sell. They blend in very well with other tomatoes in sauce.

I'm more interested in taste variations than the exact look, but it would be cool if there were more color variety in foods. Don't like tomatoes though so can't even feign enthusiasm here.

I have seeds for this tomato. Got them about a month ago. Couldn’t get them when baker creek first offered them a year or 2 ago. I think that was a fiasco for them. They will be one of 40+ varieties I grow this year. I’ll post something if they germinate and make.
