The skinning shed, is that in Kansas or after you got home. I assume it was there, I used to go only 250 to upstate NY and a place to skin inside was always a problem to find. We usually had cold and windy too. Great summary of your trip, we all appreciate the work you guys took to include us.......jk

Are you going back next year?

I hope to. My daily average in Kansas takes me a week or more to catch at home. After trapping down there for two weeks it makes it difficult to trap back here!

The skinning shed was in Kansas at the lodge we stayed at. It is one important detail that will make or break a trapping trip.

This works. Skin stuff while its still warm. I have fleshed and stretched with a portable beam. Easier to bring a fridge and generator. I have also rented a freezer and had it delivered to a motel room. Put fur up at home. Been quite a few years since I stretched them away from home. Its doable though.

Nice job on the coyote catch!

Our catch percentages were not very high but we are ok with that. the frozen clay with snow and corn stuble create some slow conditions for us. Enjoying the trip is the true joy for us.

Skinning fresh catches sounds good but skinning out in the open on those -9 degree mornings would have my fingers shutting down on me.

Not if you skin them fresh. I've skinned plenty of stuff outside at -10 below. If you are skinning it within five minutes of dispatch the body heat of the critter will keep your hands warm. Now washing the blood off your hands in the snow when you are done is another story. Lol!

Bearcat2, beaver and rats are usually C O L D even when first taken. land animals of course are warm just like deer so in cold weather they are doable outside a shed......jk
