Old School Coon Huntin' - Back In 1960

That picture was most likely taken when I was in my mothers womb

That picture took me back. In the late seventies there was an old bait dealer named Jerome. He would take me and my buddy out with his hounds and run coon all night. If I close my eyes I can still hear that sweet sound of those hounds in the woods baying. Man I miss those days and wouldn't trade them for all the tea in China. Sadly now you'd be hard pressed to find enough land to run them without people complaining. Mostly city folk that come out and rent farmers land for hunting deer. Leasing land changed all our small game hunting and trapping around here.

Still all kinds of unposted land up here to coon hunt on in northern Maine.Just a short season due to the cold weather.

Wow thats cool My dad had hounds we'd hunt most nights in fall you didn't hear coyotes in those days but could always hear other dogs baying

Good old boys

My trapping partner at the time trapped coon and ran coon at night with hounds. We harvested 150 plus coon a year

Used to harvest 100 a year with hounds with the short season here in Maine before snow would put them in their dens.

Hunted coon with a guy who ran Bluetick hounds. That was a blast! Remember one night when the dogs treed 7 coon in a large oak. All them eyes staring down at you!
