Anybody have creative ways they haul around drowning rods? Seems like modern day pickup beds are getting shorter and shorter, so I'm curious what you guys have came up with. I usually just pull a little 4x8 atv trailer with my jet sled/drowning rods/traps/stakes on it to keep the little truck bed from being so crowded

I don’t use them a lot, but I have some big pvc pipe, slide them inside a 8” pipe to keep neat and tidy.

Just started using a truck this year and man does it make me miss my grand Cherokee when beaver trapping. I could slid my 10’ drowning rods over back seat down to passenger side floor and shut the hatch. Now with the pickup I just have two feet of rod hanging out the tailgate.

Not nearly as quick, but unfortunately I still have to use it quite a bit. I can only get a drowning rod in about 50% of the places I go

Ugh...I can't stand cable. I much prefer 2/0 twin loop chain. Rerod is nice too, but bulky, heavy and kind of expensive.

I use 8 foot fiberglass rods. Put them in a capped PVC tube if I'm hauling more than a couple. You can make Tube brackets on the side of the trailer

i use 1/2"rebar 10'long. cut in half. Weld a 3/8 coupling nut on. weld a 3/8 hex nut on. this way you can screw them back together. i weld 1/2"washers to the other ends for a 3/8"rebar stake. i use 1/2"square stock for the drownder.

I have a topper with a rack, built a wooden box 10 by 1 foot out of 2x4s with plywood on the bottom ,open on top. Haul about 30 at a time, just jump up on the bumper and slide one out.

I trap beaver at a small scale but PVC has kept things well secured.

minkless, do you have a picture of your connection set up? I think I know what you mean but it'd ne nice to see exactly what your set up is.

Won't the lock hang up with that Copling in place. I have worked with rod couplings, and they are bigger than what you're connecting.

I’ve taken half in” rod drill and tapped each end about 1.5” deep and threaded in all thread with some in weld on the threads so it would stay in the one end. Then I’d just screw the other end on when ready to make set worked great till you got to some tough bottoms and when you went to give her a heck of push or 3 haha the all thread would snap and I tried all different strengths of all thread just ending with the same results.

Please post a picture of how these "screw" together.
Thanks,
Rickey
