Ten Sleep, Wyoming, got its name from the Native American tribe, the Crow Nation. The name "Ten Sleep" is a rough translation of the Crow phrase "Eleshuh" or "Ahahahoshe," which means "ten sleeps" or "ten nights."

According to legend, the Crow Nation used the area as a stopping point during their travels between the Big Horn Mountains and the Fort Laramie area. The journey took approximately 10 days, or "10 sleeps," and the area became known as "Ten Sleep" due to its significance as a resting point along the route.

The name "Ten Sleep" was officially adopted when the town was founded in the early 20th century. Today, the town proudly acknowledges its Native American heritage and the unique origin of its name. Picture by Native Visions 307

I'd stop there. They sell my favorite beer! Another interesting photo.

When us older people say, "Enjoy them while they're young." We are talking about our hips and knees, not our kids.

Great little town. Stopped there on our way to Yellowstone. Had to let our brakes cool down so I took the kids in a store for some ice cream. Beautiful country too !!

NewHouse 114 and I participated in a coyote calling contest out of Ten Sleep about 20-25 years ago. Hardest coyotes to call I've ever encountered. They get called hard 12 months out of the year because of all the sheep operations in the area.

Stopped in that bar several years ago. Camped up in mountains later that night and my Pop and my son went to the outhouse and ran into 2 moose. Nothing serious happened but my Dad got a lil panicky when he couldn’t find my son who was 8 at the time. He had crawled under parked pickup and done jerked his belt knife out ready for business! Great trip and great lil town.

When Chuck and I hunted Ten Sleep that year I drove a brand new rented jeep across a frozen Bentonite pond and broke through. Luckily someone came along and pulled us out. That jeep was a mess though. I was sure I would be put on the "do not rent to this dude" blacklist after that.

Never been in that bar, but I've drove through the town plenty of times and filled up at the gas station a lot.
