I'm just guessing but would think you use your own name tags from your own state.Good question.

If your using a state issued number you need to add one. I just use my name and address here and away. Saves a lot of headaches. I just check to see they are tagged. Dont have to make sure its the right one.

It depends on the state. The best thing to do is contact the state wildlife agency that you are going to trapp and see what options you have. When I trapped in Iowa I used the tags from my residence in KS. I also contacted the local DNR to let them know I would be trapping in the area and I had my ks tags on my trapps. That's been over 30 years ago. In Mississippi you are issued a one time # If I remember correctly.

I had another set of tags made with two other states' ID#s on them, following their respective state abbreviation.
So a person would have to get a trapping license from that state and a ID number to have seperate trap tags made up to trap in that state?

Utah requires furharvestor education, a nonresident furbearer license and your traps tagged with your trap identification number issued by the state (once issued good for your lifetime).

You won't have that problem in Minnesota. Minnesota does not allow Nonresident trapping unless the trapper Owns the property that they'll actually trap on. And Minnesota has a "tag" requirement on the trap itself also. Current address, or State ID number or Driver's license number I believe. A person Must Complete a Minnesota State Certified Trappers Course and pass, also before being Issued a Minnesota trapper license. That goes both ways now with alot of states. With a state that does not allow nonresident tapper you then are not allowed to trap in the other state as well. Its sad and to bad.

Being from the Peoples Republic of Minnesota, I am very limited to what states I can trap due to reciprocity due to West Oaks explanation. I normally just use my MN number but Kansas requires a name and address. Just added a second tag after talking to a KS CO and all was good. Just make sure both tags are readable and still on after making a catch. Ignorance is not an excuse these days but most CO's are willing to discuss such things beforehand.

Yes Bruce. Or you can use the ID# on your license. Many states name and address your legal. Thats why I dont use a #. Each state has a different #.
