One thing to take into consideration is how high you intend to hang the mount. If you have high ceilings and walls, and are going to display the mount at a higher level, you might want to consider a sneak type mount with the head lower. Alert style mounts look better when hung lower.

Thanks Snowy. I consider myself extremely lucky to have had a crack at that deer. That unit has gone way down hill in the last few years due to CWD.

It took me 8 years to draw the tag. It was the only big buck we saw.

Semi sneak is an all around great position. I mount 250-300 antlered mammal shoulder mounts a year and 90% of those are semi sneaks with a slight turn. Ears in a relaxed natural position. Knowing where it will be hung determines the turn. Some deer have a strong side and look better turned one way than the other. Typically you turn a deer to its strong side to showcase it the best. Make sure you pick a good taxidermist that uses a good properly tanned cape.
