There use to be a bounty on them in northern NY. Logging equipment left on the job would have tires and hydraulic hoses eaten off by porcupines. When I was a kid we killed them and turned in the front feet at the county clerks office and received $1 for them. There was a guy in our town who was turning in front feet from beaver, and it took a while before county officials caught on.

Then fisher were restored on the plateau in the 60’s and problem solved.

I rarely ever see a porky and although fisher didn't recently show up, I suspect they're why. I haven't even really tried overly hard for them this year and have nabbed a dozen of them near my house.
