Wax paper under and over the trap has always worked for me x2 when setting in snow. If setting in dirt, waxed sand with wax paper pan cover.

Ployfill because it’s quick , cheap and gets the job done That stuff is made less than a half mile from my location. Maybe I should raid their dumpster and sell what I find on here....lol

I use pipe insulation under the pan plus a pan cover of fiberglass screen. Probably overkill.
