Neighbor still is charging $3.25 dozen from her free range hens, just as always. Guess she doesn't know how to price gouge.

Naturally this happens after our chickens are gone. They got plucked and tossed in the freezer

most likely doesn't track her feed cost to egg production for the year. including when they slow down in winter and raising chick cost before they start laying.

Could be she does. Maybe her feed has not gone up. OR maybe she enjoys it and the money is just a bonus to fund her hobby. LOT people still price goods on a profit for the cost of goods they have. NOT like big corp what it cost to replace inventory.

We just killed and butchered six of ours. The were three-plus years old and had stopped laying. They hadn't stopped eating though! We're making a big pot (12 qts) of chicken soup tomorrow morning.

We have nine ten-month old birds that are laying six or seven eggs a day.

Eh...wot?

Here in michigan our stores can't sell eggs that are not cage free. But I think they could lie about that. It just recently took effect now that the chickens are done laying for the winter so today they are $7.50- $8.5 per dozen. Its because we have a governor that is one off those party affiliated with animal rights wackos.

The local Amish are still charging 3 dollars. They were charging the same when eggs were a dollar.

Bargain then and a bargain now

Find another source of protein. It will be a very cold day in before I pay $10 for 12 eggs. But I'll do me and the "got have them" egg lovers can do you.
